Thumbs Up

Picked up my new board a few weeks back and now that i've had a chance to get it going, may as well write a few lines as I'm feeling inspired!

Had one sail in Scarborough, hell windy and one sail at Dutch-inn, hell flat. When I first used in Scarb, thought it was a great board for that kind of conditions. The new shape, tending towards an 'Evo-like' shape, makes it real easy to get into tight pockets. I think the rocker line has changed quite a lot as well, as it has a much nicer curve that the previous model, probably more tail kick. Tight, fast reos require less effort than before, and much less back-foot pressure. It's probably due to the combination of a shorter and wider outline, a fair bit of volume mid and forward, and a still pretty narrow tail.

One of the consequences is that the board is not as fast as last year's model and doesn't plan as easily. I've always found the 2006 to be amazing down the line, full speed, and could get it going with a 4.7 most of the time. The new model probably needs more sail size for same output, and is not as fast. Doesn't bother me too much as my 5.0 was becoming very jealous.

At Dutchies, with no waves (as usual), I still enjoyed my session and did not seem to have any trouble going up wind and getting through the usual lulls, so that was a good sign that the compromise speed/maneuverability was still pretty balanced.

The bottom keeps the usual concave, double-concave and slight V on the end of the tail. Works well and gives a good control in the down the line/bottom turn situation. Drawback is that it's a bit of bumpy ride going back out, especially as the board is very light and pretty stiff.

As far as i'm concerned, that's the board i've always wanted and it suits me really well. It's fun, easy to use and perfect for our range of wave conditions, especially when you only have one board.

I just wish I could use it more!!!

I have the same board and had a few days on it in small cross off conditions on the weekend at Gerroa and it's a step up in waveriding performance from what I had before. It's a little slower to plane but on a wave you can carve it as hard as you like.
