Have been waiting and asking for a few years now for a demo twin fin to try given all the hype. None had been forthcoming, let alone suitable for 90+kg fatty. When Rossy gave me a run on his 90L twin fin, i came in after 1/2 an hour and ordered half a dozen OESs. I was that stoked. You spot a section and hit it. No bouncy bottom turns wrestling big fins and exagerated forward lean to hold the rail- u dont have to drive a bottom turn suitable for a 10ft wave on a 2ft wave just to keep the rail engaged. They are wicked FUN. I frequently hear comments about the great shots of OES boards Fredo has taken on the west coast- crew cant believe they are all 90+L boards- big boards that just shouldnt go that hard! Some of the guys riding them couldnt gybe 18 months ago (well not great Zak!) but are now charging down the line.
To make my position perfectly clear- i had one OES single amongst my quiver over the previous 18 months, however after riding the twins decided to support Peter Ross and OES (virutally no one in Adelaide rides them as the shops havent stocked them) by pushing them in Adelaide for him. Clearly the SA wave board market at 50 odd boards is pretty small and i am not in the business of profiting from mates (i have various other businesses), my main motivation was that SA and Adelaide (and ME) should benefit from the great resource that is Peter Ross and his world class product based in Port Lincoln. I got the very strong impression that he was planning a move to somewhere windier (ie west or more permanently in Hawaii) pretty soon if local sales didnt grow. I took the view that if i can get a few of his boards out there, great, if not i had a mean 6 board quiver!!
As I divide my time between Adelaide and Lincoln (7 hour drive or half hour flight) i know Rossy well- we've opened up some great new west coast spots. His time in Maui has seen his boards develop into world class products- they have always been know as being bulletproof. I will never forget when styro boards where just being developed in the early 90s and Rossy demonstrated the strength of his board by belting it with a hammer!!!
Am new to forums (first ever post) and understand that advertising is a no no- let me know if this is outta line- i just thought it was a funny story and a few people have been wondering what the h*ll i was up to
Am picking up boards next week and i still wonder on reflection if i got a little over excited (ie was pissed), however look back at fotos and recall first coupla waves and reckon i got it right.
But as i cant ride all of my OESs at once if you're down at middleton this winter in a nor westerly take one for a spin- dont take my word for it.
ps- am in need of a coupla new sets of sails in the next 12 months or so-notice to sail manufacturers- love my severnes but if you want a big order i'm a sucker for a good demo
Hi Maris,
I can get you on a new quiver of Severne sails or MauiSails.
I've got some demo's you can take out any time.
Cheers,
Tony
HI Tony
thanks mate- fantastic, sounds good, will drop in and see you sometime.
new sails are a 12-18 month project; old severnes still got plenty of life in them and i gotta work out how to pay off the new fleet first?!!
