Hi All
A final word about the board. This is a follow up from this post:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=53588
(Note: In the picture for the above article, I have a centre back strap.
.. but now I have two back straps and the straps are set in the outer
positions for maximum speed)
I've had to wait up to now, because yesterday (16th Nov at Largs Bay)
was the first decent seabreeze since March. It was conditions like
yesterday why I got this board. Something that can be sailed in chop,
yet an intermediate board.
This board certainly delivered today ! :). It does everything I asked
for. It nails along, it goes up wind, and it does this in big crazy
chop.
So there I was yesterday arv poking along. XR115 plus a Mauisails 5.2m
cross over sail (over powered strong wind). It's the fastest I have gone
in medium sized chop (0.5 - 1.0 metre). I would be in the straps and
then bear down wind just as I'm hitting a gust and going down into a
trough of a chop. I reckon I was doing an easy 60km/h (30 knot !) by the
looks of the water. .. but surely that is not right ?. I'm going to have
to get me a GPS logger I think.
I look back and I can't believe how far I am out. It looks like a kay
out ?. It seems like I have only been sailing a minute or so ?. I tack
(over powered, so no fancy stuff like plane gybes) and head back in.
Front strap, harness, back strap.. and the board takes off again like
the Millennium Falcon.
The 150L Bic Techno (previous board) can't be used as a comparison, but
if I was on that, I would have either stacked it by the 3rd chop or
forced downwind by the chop. I could have kept on going out to sea on
the XR115L, even over powered.
Coming back in, I'm out of the harness but still in the straps. I am now
carving up over the chop - just zig zagging, and carving it up, yet
still going like the clappers. It's was this 30 seconds experience
coming back over the chop that has made buying this board worth it :)
..and that's another thing. I was way over powered.. at some stages I
was almost chop hopping. Yet, not once did I spin out or lose it from
being over powered !. I was definitely over powered. Other guys at the
beach were on 4's.
People who have sailed this board say it's great. People who have seen
me sail are impressed. I say it's great too. Judging by peoples
feedback, I think this shape will spank other boards in it's class. I
thank Pete for designing this brilliant board. People might be mistaken
into thinking it's my skill, but I reckon it's because I'm using well
engineered equipment :)
