I have had my new 72 Hot rod wet 5 times now. I must say that im am extremely impressed with the quality finish, paint and setup. Im currently running k4 13 rears and 9 side fins however I will be trying some different options as this is no normal waveboard!
First off it planes with ease. With limited volume behind the rear strap/fin I thought that it may struggle to get up and go however I have had no issues at all with overall speed, blasting or planning. It does take some adjusting when transferring into your straps as if you misjudge your foot placement your back foot is in the drink! I was having difficulty in getting enough drive upwind at first however I found that adjusting the fin position further back down the box seemed to solve this problem. As I said I think the K4's may not be entirely suited to this kind of board as I assure you it is plenty loose enough in the turns on a wave and if anything it need a stiff driven fin setup which I am yet to try.
This board to sum it up in one word is "lively". Its made to shred waves to piece and I have found it certainly does this. I have never been able to get as vertical up to the top turn with so much ease and then simply throw buckets off the lip. It feels like a surfboard and looks like one on the beach. The guys around here are amazed on the dimensions and how short it is but it certainly works amazingly in waves. It is no normal wave board and has taken a few sessions to dial in and get used to the skateboard like loosness of this rig, but once adjusted I could feel my turns and wavesailing going to the next level. I would certainly not recommend this board to a beginner wavesailor but if your after something different, custom and quality and to push your wavesailing to that next level then this would be perfect for yourself and certainly something that no other production brand is offering the public.
