Is anyone else having delamination issues with North Sails Xply?

I have 2011 North Ice wave sails which are less than 18 months old. The small sails that rarely get used (4.2m and 4.7m) are delaminating the worst. 30cm long air pockets are opening up across the sails as shown in the photo below.

Time to test the 5 year product QA statement.

Take it to your dealer, North have always backed their products.

I already asked about warranty.

The Aust distributor was helpful but North International said that it didnt look too bad and that they are 18 months old!

So much for the 5 year warranty!

Buy Naish or Ka next time I have only positive things to say about both when I have ever had problems. They take a long term view to servicing their customers in Australia hope North lift their game on this front.

Seriously wtf?

When spending several 100 bucks on a sail ... Especially in a size I don't get to use that much, I expect more than 18 months ....

You Won't find me buying North any time soon, we know that all manufactures turn out the odd lemon, and what happens to one sail for example, doesn't necessarily happen to them all. But one likes to believe if you get that lemon the manufacturer will look after you?

And as for saying "it doesnt look that bad"! It depends on your perspective.... If I owned that sail I would say it looks pretty ****in awful!

I recently had a warranty claim on my '09 Ices for another issue, and had good response from North and got them repaired.

I stopped buying North 2 years ago because there are better, lighter, and more durable sails available such as Severne, Naish...
I also never buy new. For a price of new sail you can buy 2 almost perfect used sails.

You probably have but try being persistant to the point of painful Paul and they might take care of it to get u off their back, send constant emails and phonecalls along with reminders of their warranty policy!!

Maybe remind them of the changes to warranty in Australia, no longer is it 12 months.
Do some research & then approach them again with the info

Email them a link to this sea breeze thread, let them know 345 people have read it so far and are all probably wondering how good the 5 year warranty really is.

seems to me that the windsurfing manufacturing industry is having real quality issues at the moment. If it isnt sails delaminating its mast breakages or soft spots in boards.
When will they realise that it is cheaper to do it right the first time.

So its not just my North Sail with this problem. You'd think if it was a rarity they would have quickly done something..... so maybe they are having wider problems.

Thanks for the advice guys - will keep plugging away.

There's been a few issues, when you make complicated stuff in a good factory it comes out perfect, try mass produce it with staff that see it as a $150 product instead of a $1000 product when we get it, means they couldn't care...

Same with boards, to them it's a $300 product to us it's $2500
