Is anyone using the Naish Boxer SL in the larger sizes, 7.6 or 8.2? Can anyone comment on their power in light wind?
A while ago I got a 7.6 race sail to try and get more time on the water but I don't think it has any more grunt than my 6.4 wave sail, despite the much fuller profile (definitely more top end though!). Since I already bought a new 460 mast for this sail I would like to try and stick with that and the 8.2 seems to be the biggest sail that will fit on it, plus it's designed for light wind and early planing rather than for overpowered racing. I really should have gone straight for something around 9.0 but I don't really want to buy another mast and boom now.
Any other ideas or comments?
I have the 6.4 boxer SL - rigs on a 430 RDM. It has great low end power and a good range. I do find that it is hard/stiff to gybe as it has a fair bit of pressure on the cams. I use an Ezzy mast & it is probably a bit more soft top than the Naish masts making it stiffer in the middle. I put a smaller cam in to help the problem. I haven't tried the larger sizes. The two new large ones (7.6 & 8.2) rig on STD masts and I bet that they are very mast sensitive as well. Good luck with your choice of sail.
