I bought this sail a couple of weeks ago. It calls for a 22cm base extension, but if I use that setting the downhaul rope pulls sideways and comes off the pulley. No problem if I set it to 24cm, but then I have a lot of rope between the pulleys on the base and the sail. I don't have the same problem using the same mast base on my older NP Combats.
So I'm wondering if I might have got a sail which has accidently been put together with the pulley at slightly the wrong angle, or is it a problem that is common to all NP X-Waves and in all sizes.
Other than that, I'm happy with the sail. It is very sensitive to outhaul. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much power I got when I bellied it out, so I was easily planning in 10 knots (measured on the beach) on a 86l board.
Wouldn't you know it. I rigged it in the backyard at great personal risk from the mosquitos and it refused to misbehave for me. So it must have been operator error the first, so far only time I used it![]()

with a foil?
which 86L were you sailing in 10 knots with a 6.2m to get planing?
what is your weight?

10 knots measured with a hand held anemometer on the beach. Local BOM stations were calling it at about 16-20 from memory.
