What the world needs, or, if it already exists, I need to be directed to, is a mix and match evaluation site for masts and sails from different lofts.

I currently have several oldish Ezzys and a couple of Fiberspar 460s, one of which is due for replacement.

The Ezzys set fairly crappy on the Fibrespar (oops, slipped into proper spelling there), but look good on Gaastra and Ezzy skinnys. Not my sails, but similar sizes owned by other locals.

In the past, I've been up to ECB at Narrabeen, and Sam has been good enough to rig other sails on my existing mast in the past, to ensure a decent match before taking my money. Good on you, Sam!

But that takes time, and is impossible if you're buying online. Besides which, I see plenty of sailors around with more than one brand in their kit, and, no doubt, the same problem.

So, my thought is that the world needs a good mix and match mast and sails resource. Your suggestion?

Hi Mr. Milk,

I'm not sure if you've come across this site before, if you read between the lines then you should be able to get a rough idea of which mast will work with which sail.

You will find the EZZY and Gaastra's and I think Tushy will be similar as they come from the same Italian manufacurer for this year.
Fiberspar is stiffer in the bottom and flexier in the top, which is not that great for those sails. Powerex is something like halfway between the fiberspar and the EZZY/Gaastra in bend curve.

The next issue of boards mag uk has a great article all about mast compatibilty. It will make everything clear as mud. Why? - because the specs are not always correct making nothing set in concrete when trying to rely on manufacturing specs.
The boards forum has 11 pages of arguments among sailors about what is right or not. It makes entertaining reading.

So we go back to actual rigging and checking to find out if it sets right.

If you are getting such good help from Sam why buy on line? Why not trust the guy in the know?
Cheers
