i am about your weight, and sail often in light winds
< 12 knots is longboard weather for me
12-15 knots is JP SLW weather
15-20 knots is board like the Mistral Vision 161 or less

have tried an AHD FF 160 with 10 meter sail, but did NOT like it when the wind dropped - sail became too heavy
that is why i went to a Mistral Equipe 2 XR in light winds with 8 meter sails
when winds are a little more stable i do enjoy the 10 meter sail

as far as the Mistral Vision 161 goes, it seems it was\is 70 cm wide
this may be narrow by today's standards, but slices through the water better in light winds and in chop
all depends on your skills - as Stehsegler suggests - can you handle 70 cm wide board or need more ??
also, Geoff aka gh seabreezer seems to have had one and used it in light wind
pm him ??

and looks like the board is not just light wind - due to 70 cm width I guess (video is in more than 14-17 knots)

Ok a little more info. Tight budget. Dont mind older gear. Used to sail regularly 25 years ago.Atm im sailing a 2000 IMCO. Great fun. Can sail 3 times a week.Harness n straps no dramas some gybes n tacks n waterstarts. Can ride my SPEED SS125L 60cm wide shortboard at similar skill level. Just need a fair wind to get going. Hence the need for high volume shortboard.Sails used are 7m aerotech pro race n 8m aerotech vmg advantage. Average windspeed 10-15kts. Thanks guys!

110kg lightwind qld.....??

yep it will probably work but not down to 10knts

I am =85cm and 8.5m sails and bigger to take advantage of the wind range you are interested in

On gumtree is a ahd wide board and a drops formula board in seperate adds. Little more $$ than the mistral but from the adds looks like better condition and both much wider

where will you be sailing - how much chop??

cheers Jeff

just checked. Only drops left

Hi Joe, have followed yr posts since ive resurrected my sailing days. Would AHD 160 FF be ok with only 8m max sail. 2016 model board.

yes oldskool, the AHD FF 160 is great with 8m sail
but like Jeff says, NOT in 10 knot winds - that's longboard weather for me
board came with a 52 cm fin that worked with a 10m sail
however, as stated earlier, if wind dipped, sail becomes heavy

this video was in lighter winds, probably close to 14/15 knots tho

Hi Jeff, i sail Golden Bch. Chop depends on tide. About 1ft or so id guess. Grabbed the Mistral Vision 161. Too cheap to say no. See how it sails. Soon as the wind permits.

Gidday ..mistral vision ...yeah
i still have my vision 2000 150'.used a 9.6 on it but mainly a 8,0 ,was a good light winder .the 150 is faster ,but I have ridden the 160 in the cooks .its noticeable floater ,but still a easy board to sail .
good boards .

Ok so i finally got to try the Vision 161. Also tried a different sail a NP 6.9 RAF Jet. 18-24kts. After sailing the IMCO for an hour. Jumped on the Vision. Eeek!! This thing was like riding a TicTac!! With my weight the board was very sensitive to foot weight n position. Had to bear deeply off wind to get it up n running. Then couldnt get into straps even though i had them inboard n single rear. Fanging along in the chop no straps you say? Yep, catapult No 1! So a few waterstarts n catapults and a bit of buzzing around i made to the shore where i started.(Positive was the Raf sail was much easier to waterstart than my ol cambered sails.) I jumped back on the IMCO n powered away easily. Hhmmm Not sure i like the shortness of the Vision. Will get back on it again. But now ive scored a BIC Metal Rock 140l. Looks more my style of ride. Will take for a spin when i find a suitable slalom style fin.US box 30cm+. Any ideas??

Try Surf Sail Australia, they had 30cm pointer style US box fins in plastic for around $50

So which fin is recommended??? Skip the plastic id think. Select progression is 32cm the wave style 33cm.

Select .pay extra and you will have this fin for a while .....I think a 30 fin would be to small with your weight and a 7.0 sail .
at least a 36 -38 .minimal .

Don't I dont know whether it would be wise to go much above 30 with a US box.

Thats why im looking at 34-35 cm MAX. Any thoughts on the fx freecarve 33cm against progression 34cm I sail flatwater with tidal chop. Also like the Flying objects freeride350.
