Just after some feed back on the JP radical thruster quad 94 litre, anyone sailing one, if so what's your weight and what size sails ? Is the 17 model only different with the extra fin box for the thruster over the 16 model, or any other changes, other than art work ?
Have you tried as a 3 & 4 fin ?, any feed back would be grouse ?, cheers in advance.??
I ride the 16' 94, quad version as my go to wave board. A true down the line board that does everything the brochure says, excels in cross off, slogs around comfortably in light wind and when it's on, one of the fastest boards down the line I've ridden with max control. At 90kgs can use the board from 15 knots up, biggest sail is 5.3 and smallest has been 4.3 maxing out in 30-35knts, handles this range well.
The 94 is very fin sensitive with a lot of range for personal preferences/feel, personally I don't think it works at all as a twin. Needs plenty of fin area for me to get up wind in cross on or for blasting and wouldn't recommend the 'quad only' as a general high wind blasting board. I hear the thruster version is better for all round blasting and other than the addition of the center box, is the same board as the quad only.
Hi , Nerdburger and Seabreezers
I have the Thruster Quad version jp 2017, 95 , litre model. , My weight is 80 to 75 kg depending on how much beer i drink
.
I did have a FSW Model, but it was more bump and jump, off course , than wave orientated. Good board.
I chose ,to buy the 95 Litre thruster quad, board ,for a float and ride ,cross shore board , for onshore waves, and cross off wave riding . It excels in all those categories, + bump and jump. Not quite as much speed as thr FSWave, only by a knot or two.
I have never used it in any other mode than, Thruster.
It turns as hard ,as my ankles, can turn it, goes where my eyes can see, jumps like a flea on heat, and is as fast as any other.
I have just bought a 84 version 2015 yet to be sailed.
Cant wait.
Looked at the Radical Quad as well, but dont, have ,the waves ,down here ,to warrant ,a pure wave riding board.
It is my go to board for waves onshore, cross shore, cross off ,and bump and jump.
Can comfortably ride it up to 33.333 knots of gust, in this volume.
I Have ridden other boards , but i do think this is a good one, hence my new 84 litre.
I Use any sail from 4.5 to 5.7 goes sweet. 4.2 to 4.7 sail will be for the 84 litre.
Hope this helps for your choice between Radical And Thruster.
I want both. All of them.
If you lived in WA you would own both,!
Hope this gives some insight
Cheers .
. Ya bunch of frothin wind heads yeah bitch.
.
So wish they would make a larger version of this board like Goya does for us bigger guys and slogging days.
