Hi, I am interested in the JP single thruster 99L board. Anyone got any reviews on them? Do they turn good? I have a twin 86 fanatic but wouldl like a bigger board, not sure if to go as big as 99 or get the twin 93 fanatic or quad 94.
Board is for wave sailing from small mush to larger down the line sailing.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
Hi there, Search is your friend!
Do a search on Single Thruster and select Match exact phrase and select Search by Date: in the last year
All depends on your weight. If you are 95 kg or above it's a great light wind wave board.
I also have the 93 Fanatic Quad from last year and they two very different boards. The JP planes earlier, is faster and especially for heavy weights the better board in gusty conditions.
The Fanatic Quad on the other hand is really tuned to down the line wave sailing. It doesn't seem to mind how big a wave you throw at it but it comes at a cost. I will plane later is definitely the smaller board.
Where are you based? If you are in Sydney there you can see the guys at Windsurf and Snow. They have a 99 JP Thruster on demo. There are also plenty of people around that have a 93 Fanatic Quad. I am sure one of them would let you have a go. I certainly know I have had a few people try both the Quad and Thruster... helping them in their purchasing decision.
RE a 86 twin vs 93 Quad. I would think those two boards are too close together.
thanks for the replys.
did a search and found some good info.
I also think the 93 is too close to my 86 but there are not many options between that and the 99.
i like the idea of the allround-ness of the JP. I had a JP RWW several years ago and loved it for smaller waves to B&J.
Reading the reviews and the replys I am sure the 99 is too big for me.
I want a light wind wave board but I am not a heavy weight only 80-82kg.
The 86 twin floats ok but feels alot smaller than my old All wave 85 and does not feel as nice with a 5.9.
I think the quad 94 or twin 93 may the best bet for me.
I only sail 5.0 - 5.9 weather. the wind in the caribbean does not vary much.
I have a 99 single thruster and its great fun and is a good allrounder - but when I jump on my 82 Quad in waves the difference is noticaeble immediately - the quad is sooo much nicer better speed off the bottom turns - never spins - saying that its way smaller - but is is corky and gets going easily - floats me well in lulls
The 99 is a good float and ride - but saying its for someone >95Kg should be taken with a grain of salt - Im 85kg - its for someone who wants a floaty all round board - I never bother going single fin but do use BP z 2x 13cm and a rear 20 - 22 cm MUF - works a treat - back on the standard 23 and 10cm at the moment and its better for B&J with that set up. (I think its so long since we sailed decent waves )
OES (95 -120L) have some nice looking bigger Quads that you can custom order as well as Nudes - their both making great looking sticks in Australia - - If watching Mr Severne and Maris Naish is anything to go by those boards go off
