I looking at replacing my broken (sadly with only reasonable use) Mistral Synchro with a 83L /maybe 92L JP RWW. I'm 65 kgs and want to use this as my light wind "grovelling out to the wave break" freewave/wave board.
Can anyone help me?
Does this board get up and plane in very light winds or does it need a fair wind strength to get up and go.
Could the 83L handle a 6.4sqr. metre freewave sail(KA Kult).
Would a Starboard Kombat or Fanatic freewave be a better option?(I loved the Synchro but once bitten etc.)

Fanatic freewave 88L is a real goer. Ask Donk, he has one and it powers in light conditions.

I have an older 2004 Freewave and it is the best allround board I have ever used.

Good Luck.

Comrade MaxS
I have this JP RWW 83 you are asking about
This board goes super well in lightwind as it gets up and planning very quickly
Based on your weight I would suggest having a go on a 76 as well
I use my RWW83 as a lighter wind wave board and it can take a 6.2m sail easily. That said it also rips in mast high waves with a 4.7m and an 8 inch fin!
I am not sure how comfortable it would be using a larger sail... given your weight I would suspect you wouldn't need anything bigger than a 5.8m to get you going in really light stuff
The only problem you might experience with this board is the bounce effect once the wind gets going.
Due to your weight and the volume of the board in comparison, it will get pretty bouncey and jittery as the wind cranks up. This can make it a little harder to control in critical sections of the wave and in the air. I think this would happen with just about any board of this style.
This seems to be something that ONLY effects lighter sailors.
At nearly 90kg I dont experience any of these issues with my 83 and can muscle/throw it round quite freely
Without a doubt my sailing (wave sailing in particular) improved 5 fold by using this board.
Once you work out what the board likes to do you can start using it to your advantage.
I also agree with Fatboy that the Fanatic Freewave 88l is a great all rounder.
Having used both boards I found the JP quicker to plane and more likely to stay there. The Fanatic felt alot stiffer but was looser on the wave.
IN the end I went for the JP as it suited my style/method of sailing better.
As a result i am now sticking push loops and nailing a few aerials, something I would not have contemplated being able to achieve prior to getting this board
My suggestion would be to try both boards in a few sizes and work out what you like vs what you dont like. From there you work out which board is best suited to you.
Also, ask people you see using the board what they like about it

PS going from a Syncro onto a JP RWW or a Fanatic Freewave would be like stepping out of a toyota camry and into a subaru wrx. Once you work out what it can do and what you're comfortable doing with it... you'll be grinning for a month

Comrade Kremlin,
Thanks for your most informative comments - they have certainly helped me a lot. I also have a 72L waveboard so high wind conditions are covered.
your analogy re: the toyota and the wrx was both amusing and enlightening.
