Where do people have fins positioned? Anyone tried different fin positions for 74 JP twinser quad forward/back of 0 position. What is your prefered position?
Probably comes down a lot to personal preference? Forward = looser, rear = more controlled. I don't own a JP quad but on my other brand of quad I sail with the fins slammed forward as it makes the board insanely loose, which in the conditions I generally sail in is boss. Just experiment, what works for someone else might not work for you.
run my fins at +2cm.
i personally find the boards over finned for down line riding especially if the waves are small. for jumping and onshore stuff the normal fins work well but i definitely found the performace improved for riding with smaller fins.
using 9 and 13s nearly all the time and put 14s in for onshore jumping conditions.
Thanks Al,
Thats the sort of reply i am after. I tried the fins at about -2 on the weekend. Felt good on the waves. Wanted to spin out at times if i put to much pressure on back foot in a straight line. Running standard fins. Have you tried different footstrap or mast base positions?
No worries, I think for general sailing the boards feel a bit sluggish with the fins spread further apart so next time you get out try putting them a bit futher forward.
I always put the mast track a little bit back of centre. The board just feels much more reactive than when it is forward.
For the footstraps its best to have them set wide to get a big stance, gives you a lot more control when it is really choppy and when wave riding.
