Only the European rental centres get the FW version single fins. No need for a thruster on flat water. Saves them money when they put the old boards in the bin after the season is over.
Yes it is cheaper but more suitable for certain applications and the bottom of boards designed to sail in rough water is a good application in my opinion.
Apart from the fact that its a good all rounder what I like about the thruster set up is that provides a lot of grip for a small/short fin. I use a 6.2m freerace sail on a jp fsw 93 for blasting and there is never a hint of spinout. In the surf the short fin allows me to gybe close to the beach in the whitewash ( Geroa) without getting snagged so I can get the max ride out of a wave.

Do you use the 3 fins for blasting with a freerace sail or single?
Allways use it with the 3 fins. Otherwise the supplied 21cm fin would be too small on its own for the 6.2m free race.
Fanatic has been using the same ploy with their Freewave for years. Maybe it's the way things are heading. IMO - questionable gains in terms of lowering cost vs putting buyers off.
Not this year, they all come as stubby with 3 fin option
