Thought I'd just post a review of the International Epifill Epoxy Filler as i have just used it to fix some dings and so far i think it's excellent.
For $20 you get a tube of base and a tube of hardener - i have done a fairly large repair and have loads left. It mixes just like a wall filler and it's white so it's perfect for white boards! As it's thick you don't need to use any q-cells and it doesn't sag.
Leaving it to go off over night you're left with a repair that it is super easy to sand and to blend into the original level of the board. When using a very fine sandpaper (1000+) it comes up really well and I guess it would shine up with some cutting compound (don't quote me on this).
So if you have any small dings, chips, dents, little cracks and puncture wounds this is great stuff. You can fill very small holes and it bonds really well.
I know a lot of people use araldite but that cracks in salt water and it is too runny to fix sizeable dings. I will let you know what the Epifill's ding resistance is like as I'm sure to hit this part of my board within 10 minutes of being back on the water.
The only advantage of having an injury is you finally get round to doing a proper repair job!
Cheers and Happy Australia Day!
I managed to impail my Kinetic Euphoria on a piece of steel pipe ( remains of an old Reef marker ) that was about 1/2 inch below water level last Sat . Nice gash in the bottom of the board , reckon I was impressed !!!.
I stuffed some fiberglass and epoxy in first , then finished off with White epifiller . It,s come up great and is absolutely rock hard . Only issue is it,s really more cream than white , so I will have to paint it at some stage.
I would definitely recommend it for dings, and gouges and for the filler coat on more major repairs .
You should be able to buy it at most Yachting chandleries .
Not sure if you guys have tried Selleys KneadIT? It's a hand kneadable, fast setting, sandable, epoxy repair putty. You can get an aqua one (use on wet surfaces - fix a hole below water line in a boat that is still in the water) and a multipurpose one (multipurpose is good for normal repairs).
Dries whiteish and is, I think from memory, about $12 - $15 for a 110g tube from hardware stores & Big W etc. Local board repairer put me onto it.
I wouldn't repair a huge gash with it but it works a treat on minor holes etc.
