Hi,
Has anybody tried to windsurf with Gunsails GS-R racing slalom sails? What is your feedback?
If you can compare, how would you compare it with Duotone / North Warp and / or Severne Mach 3?
I am interested in durability, quality aspects...
...as well as feel during normal sailing and downwind slalom? Are they softer / more rigid? Lighter / Heavier? More responsive / forgiving in gusts? Anything you can share please would be helpful.
Thanks!
French mag says gs-r 2020 has explosive acceleration, very stable, thin profile shape which doesn't kill your arms and to easily perform. Super fast on a broad reach. A bit less good when you need to recover upwind in poor wind. It basically needs steady wind to motor its fast shape. It's one of the less tiringsome, very good for long distance. You can easily depower it just using the OH trim system. Very good for standard weight people.
I've been using Gun GSR exclusively for GPS sailing in sizes 5-7.8 for the last 4 years (yr models 2015, 2017 & 2019). Performance wise I am very happy with them and do not feel at any disadvantage to friends using either Duotone or Severne. They are easy to rig on Gun masts and I find I can handle them well above their target wind strength if trimmed accordingly. The construction is good and the materials used (I believe from Dimension Polyant) hold their dimensions very well and are durable.
The only negative aspect I have found with them is the cam pocket zipper pulls. Whilst the zipper material is plastic, the zipper pulls are from painted metal and tend to corrode over the space of a few years. Note that I never wash my sails and use them exclusively in Seawater.
Nothing wrong with the Gun sails good solid sails. Yer zips were the only issue, one thing i wish they would have fixed.
