I've been watching the development of the Gun GSR's the last couple of years and then demoing the 2016s I decided to order the new 2017s 5.6, 6.3, 7.1, 7.8.So far I've used the 2017s 7.1 and 7.8 a couple of times each. The sails look and feel great on the water, good stability, rotation and easy rigging/derigging.The quality on these sails is awesome and backed with a 2 years warranty on Sails and Mast, definitely worth considering when looking for your next slalom sail.
I'm using the Gun select 100% SDM for 6.3-7.8 and Loft RDM 400 for the 5.6 which I love as I don't need to buy an extra mast
. The 6.3 can also rig on SDM or RDM when the RDM kit is purchased.

Hi Vando
Also been looking at the Gun sails for awhile but always go away from buying them because in the past the sails were fragile.
How do you compare them to your Severne reflex in terms of quality of materials, specialy the monofilm?
Every new year that race sails come out i watch that each time the monofilm is less robust and the sails after one season are all busted :(
Why did you change from Severne to Gun?
Cheers
Hi Mario, Which model Guns are you referring to, I can only comment on the GSRs as that's the only model I've got.
I've had both the 2016 and 2017s they both look as good or better than some of the brands on the Market.
The 2017 are slightly lighter due to the change to carbon battens.
The Mono seems as good as anything else Ive used not that there's much in these sails
.
Have you seen one in the flesh, they really do look very well built IMO suppose time will tell.

Hi Vando
Thanks for the reply
The last gunsails i?ve seen on the beach where from 2014 or 2013 and they did not look as good as some other brands we have on the water (severne, north and NP)
In the end of the season we can make an evalutation on the durability of the sails.
I can talk about my Overdrive sails that i use since 2012. I track all my logs so i can see how many times i have used each of my piece of kit.
Comparing my Overdrive III sails with my Overdrive IV and V i can say the Overdrive III where more robust specially in the monofilm.
What i can see is year after year the sails become lighter but at the cost of using thinner monofilm :( :(
So as the sails getter more expensive each year i?m looking at alternative brands with lower prices like GUN.
That is why i was asking why you changed from severne to gun.
Cheers
I have Gun Vectors ( the range down from the GS-R with 3 cams) in 9.6 and 7.5. Fabulous sails with great stability and very easy rigging. The 9.6 has seen a LOT of use ( sailed 100-ish times; we get a lot of light wind days up here) and the durability has been excellent-it still has lots of life. They pump really well and so the 9.6 boosts early planing amazingly well while still handling nicely. Prices are great. I'm a happy customer of Justin's for these sails!!
I own the 7,1 - 7,9 and 8,7 GS-R 2016 and i can ashure you that the quality is tremedous, the monofilm they use is thicker than of a lot of other, more expensiver brands. So i had befor these Guns a few Vapors, but ther quality isn't that good as the Guns in my opinion.
Very similar use of same materials as used in the pre 2016 Loft Racing Blades.
One of the reasons i looked at them Col![]()
Also been looking at the Gun sails for awhile but always go away from buying them because in the past the sails were fragile.
Can only talk about the wave sails here, but my last set of Gun sails lasted me six years without ever breaking. With my current set, the only problem i've had was a broken mini-batten on my 4,6 Blow so far (looked like one of the fellas below stepped onto it).

I also destroyed a 6m Torro freeride sail completely, while abusing it as a light-wind wave sail in 2m shore break, some years ago - but i suppose every other 6 meter freeride sail would have looked the same after that treatment...

Taguinza in Morocco - sometimes there are plenty of camels too ;)
Bolonia (near Tarifa) has loads of cows and horses on the beach as well.
Thanks for the post... I recently raced in the hi-winds Aruba with a second-hand hellcat 7.1, and got third place in the long-distance categorie and have been looking for an upgrade... Been looking at the gun line-up, i think will go for the vector. I still cant get used to thos huge luffs...![]()

First sail on my new 2015 Gun GSR 5 m yesterday, its a sweet little sail, easy to use and gave me a 2 sec PB. Looking at this photo it could have a bit more downhaul. Highly recommend these sails and the latest model can only be better IMHO.

Hey mate, I'm using a fairly old Loft 100% carbon RDM 400, it seems to work just fine, and the cams rotate easily. The fit in the top of the mast sleeve is a bit snug, but I expect that it will loosen up with use. One of my buying decisions was that I didn't need to buy another mast, other 5m race sails for constant curves masts that I looked at needed a 370.
