Picked up my GoPro Hero2 today and took it out for a quick camera test, Is it 2X better??? have a look at the clips and judge for yourself. It has some cool features and if your in the market for a GoPro I'd go for the Hero2 over the now cheaper HD. The ability to change the field of view to narrow is worth the upgrade, I've yet to test the new 11mp camera but will so in the next few days. I don't see a lot of difference in picture quality, Maybe the colors and light levels are a bit better on the new camera but it's real close.

The clips are unenhanced in anyway, just raw footage from the gopro...

Interesting comparison Jason. I watched them both at the same time and tried to look fordifferences between the quality of the 2 vids. I was going to say that Hero 1 is darker in it's overall clarity but then there are times is the vids that Hero 2 becomes the darker of the 2. In the end I really couldn't tell much if any difference at all. I have no doubt though that it's better. It's a rarity where a new model is bought out of anything that isn't better. But there are always exceptions to that rule......RSR / RSREvo 2

Are you sure both cameras were setup the same? It looks like the GoPro1 Footage was filmed with a wider angle than the GoPro 2 footage.

From what I have seen there is a difference in quality on the GoPro 1 when you film in 127 degree vs 170 degree setting.

Other than that from what I have seen so far in different footage the GoPro HD 2 has a bit more sharpness and better white balance. Plus highlights don't seem to blow out as easily.

Yes the FOV was different, as there was no specs to confirm any difference in quality I didn't think that it compromise the test. FOV was set to 127 for the HD GoPro and 90 on the GoPro 2, I suspect any quality degradation is in the rendering process. For the sake of time and free upload limits on Vimeo I rendered the clips at an Internet friendly 720p and this would have reduced the overall quality. I will do a full render at 1080p and make a blu-ray and run it on my plasma and make final judgement about image quality in the coming days. From what I've seen on the net the videos are very good and the difference is quite noticeable but who knows how much image enhancement has been applied.

What's claimed to be different about the new one:

Better interface, now language based.
2x sharper lense.
Professional low light performance.
90 FOV at 1080p.
48fps at 960p(good for slow-motion).
90 + 127 FOV at 720p.
120fps in WVGA(good for super slow-motion).
Mini-HDMI output.
3.5mm micro phone input.
Wi-Fi streaming(web or device) and remote.
Smart Phone control via GoPro app.
11mp stills.
10 photos per second.
TimeLapse from 0.05 seconds to 60 seconds.

Stay tuned.......
