Whos got what? what's it like? what was it worth?

I'm looking at getting an all in one gear bag for travelling to WA by air later in the year. Needs to be able to fit 4 or so sails a couple of masts and booms; preferably including wheels.

I've had a bit of look around the net; Pryde and North both seem to make good bags but they look exxy (not really an issue if they are worth it). Gun do a pretty good value bag (that Gesalt did a review on before) but it looks like it won't take booms and it's doesn't have wheels (could fix the wheel issue easily enough).

So basically anyone have any experience with some pimping gear bags? Are they stupidly priced?

i've got the pryde all in one. it was expensive - $310 i think.... they work well but it all comes down to how you pack it. it is really important to have the masts stiffening the bottom of the bag to stop dragging.

Gun bags are good, but you do need to get the mast bag as well. They're well made, but as you stated no wheels.

I think Windsurfingsales also have the loft bags - not sure what they're like though.

I find the airlines will accept more bags that weigh less than one bag with lot's in it.I took all my gear to WA in three bags and not a question raised, while a mate had no end of dramas because he jammed every thing into one bag
I have Gun bags which I find durable and as long as the zips are well lubricated will be up to the task.

Got both, they clip together. Best item I have ever purchased Tough as buggery. Takes three mast, and up too 5 sails.
Windsurfingsales, will get them too you at a good price

mineral1 & Crash Landing - is it the Combibag Two in One (Mastbag + Sailbag) from Gun Sails your talking about? If so, how are they for securing to roof racks? Do the sails stay well protected and not get crushed?

Ejmack,
They are great value and the sails don't get crushed as their are metal loops on the each side of the bag so you can thread the straps through them and onto your roofracks. You won't go wrong with a combi bag.

agreed - no crushing at all. Their length will hold up to about an 8.5m -> if your sails are smaller, there is a "fold-up front panel" to make them shorter.

Cheers guys...been looking for something to get the sails and masts out of the back of the car. My largest is a 7.5 so all should fit. Thanks.

Areotech do an adjustable board bag in various widths but adjustable lengths. only around $130 to $190 depending of size.
They have a removable wheel section on the tail and can fit a board, boom, masts and 2 or 3 sails. I have used them to send gear to Cocos every year and they work fine.
the biggest issue is weight when it all goes in one bag. I would advise a couple of bags.

Put your masts in a padded mast bag and strap it to your boardbag then use a boom bag for booms and sails and harness etc and clothes.
cheers

1 wave board 2 masts 3 sails a boom and the bits and peices all in one double surfboard bag

thinks its 245cm long. if u do your research and know what u need i believe u can get away with one bag.

weighs a ton though
