Sorry this isnt really a reveiw but more of a question . . .
im just chasing any opinions on the poisons post 06
build quality , what they rig like , are they nice to sail etc
i have had and 04ish gaastra grind that i really liked but i just destroyed it and am looking to replace it. so if you have ridden a grind and a poison i would like to hear from you!!!
Just bought an 06 Poison 5.4 - heaps more pre shape in the bottom battens and less loose luff even when minimal outhaul. seems to power up nicely only sailed it in crappy waves no bigger than about waist height - seemed to de power pretty easily on the bottom turn and power up off the top - works well with 98 Fanatic freewave.
Certainly no expert but it is way different to the 04 - but feels good. It was 16-24 knts a bit overpowered on the bigger gusts but it handled it well and didn't get quite as backhanded as the old 5.8 used to get.
The 5.4 replaced a 5.8 poison 04 model after shredding it at Robe
I am very happy and the price was good - off of seabreeze of course.
Hi Maverick, just the facts from me! As it would be biased for the importer to review the sail.
The big differences since Dan Kasseler came on board is
1) The booms got shorter on all the range as part of customer feedback and a marrying of the sail design with the pocket wave style boards they are built for. with better bottom turning and carving a result of the higher clew.
2) I would also say the sails got a little bit gruntier in the bottom but with more general leach twist.
3) Some big improvements were made in durability with the way the foot panel is sewn into the monofilm by folding over the fabric to protect the seem and using the Jelly foot to prevent wear and tear by the deck grip on your boards.
4) Coloured monofilm and a new look has brought the aesthetic apeal out of the dark ages.
Not exactly what you were after, but I used to ride all Grind's 03/04 and have recently gone to the Manic HD 08.
Love the new sails, I know they are a different feel because of the different range, but even the general build and shape of the sail is better than in the past.
I have ridden Gaastra since the old heat wave days and I have to say that the 2001 onwards sails have all been great, and got better each year. Can't praise them enough.
