I bought this with my own money, for 2 reasons, I have always owned Gaastra Slalom sails, and also wanted to support the Challenge sponsor.
Have sailed it twice now, first time in moderate to overpowered, and today in underpowered to moderate.
Haven't used it with the proper mast, so I imagine the sail would be even better with that.
It is a 3 cam Race/Slalom Sail, luff 480, needs 460/25 mast, 210 boom. Very easy to rig com[ared to the Vapour, though I never had the right mast for thr vapour.
How do I rate it, well sometimes you try something and it just feels sweet, and that's how I describe this sail "Sweeeeet". It's also bloody fast, did a 33 knot run on the T1 RS59, and have never done 33 kts on a 7m before.
How it compares: I've owned a 2000/1 GTX 7.5, and it definitely feels it has a much better range, more stable, and much better top end than that, but with bottom end about the same. Compared to my 03/04 Gaastra GTR 7m. which I love BTW, it is in another league, much more stable, better bottom end, better top end. Compared to my Gaastra 98 Flow F1 6.6m. it feels faster, with better bottom and better top end.
The GTX's are designed to be more user friendly than the top of the line, Gaastra Vapours, not so mast specific, one less cam, moderate luff pocket compared to the very wide luff pocket in the Vapour. My geuss would be that unless you are a top end racer, for sizes 7m+, the average sailor would be very happy with the GTX never having to fork out the extra for a Vapour. And much easier rigging!!!!!!
