From: Windsurfing mag. USA.

GOYA X1 105 Airseries

Sail Range: 4.5 to 7.0

WHAT WE LIKED:
Its only 14.25 pounds, which translated into excellent early planning, a responsive ride
And great pop for jumps. It also was catlike on edge, which had expert testers postulating
about its real-world wave applications.
BUYER BEWARE:
Its not a speed board, and a touch too wide and lively for ultapowered go-fast bump and jump sailors.
BETTER THAN THE FLEET AT:
Well, the obvious freestyle maneuvers, but its early planning and fun-riding sensation were eye-opening,
even among long time freeriders.
BEST SUITS:
Intermediate to experts looking for a compact, stable, maneuverable shape to get their planning for their
next move.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:“Best straps in the world”, one tester said about its MFC foot straps.

MY VERY PERSONAL COMENT:
Board is a “wow” factor when you pick it up, MFC Freestyle pro fin…no ****!

Hi Alberto,

What is the main difference beteween the X1 and the Aqua One 95 lit, apart from the volume.
I am thinking buying one of those. The conditions that I have in mind is flat, semiflat water or chop around 60 cm and winds between 12-18(max) knots. I am 70 kilos and I will use it with my 6.2 and 5.3 sails. I want to use this board for learnig some freestyle tricks and different kind of jibes (like monkey, piroutte) but I want also to be comfortable for general surfing in the above conditions.

i have been surfing for some years, I own a goya 2007 wave board 75lit and I can jibe easily on the waves.

thanks

HEy Jim
stoked for the interest on the X1, this board rocks!
Ok, im guessing that on 70Kg you will plain very easily and super early on both the boards, (sail sizes are not a problem)but the Aqua One is more orientated for light wind waveriding and frestyle moves. The X1 will be less lose in the waves due to the width of the tail and the shape of the fin (MFC Freestyle Pro), the good thing is that you can tune those boards as you prefer, so they will be very versatile. My call is X1, fit a small sail, even in light wind and this babe will pop like no others, its sickly light...you are going to have a ball....

Alberto, thanks for your valuable info.
I wish to ask you one more question about the tail.
X1 has a beveled tail since it is a pure frestyle board,
what about Aqua One 95? Does its tail have any Freestyle characteristics?

thx

Hey Jim
The tails are the same, both beveled on the same angle but the Aqua one is thinner and pinnier.
Any more questions do not hesitate to ask,

yes Alberto, I would like to ask something else.
How would you compare the FreeWave 95/2006 with the OneAqua 95/2007?
From what I can understand the OneAqua line combines characteristics from both the FreeWave 2006 and the Wave XR 2006 line.
OA is shorter than Freewave and less wide than both Freewave and WXR.
But OA 95 still uses a 28cm Fin which probably indicates that the Freewave 95/2006 characteristics are more dominant.

Btw, does any of the 2006 lines (Freewave, WXR) have a beveled tail?

Could you please comment on this?

Hi Jim
Both the tails (Fw 95 and WXR) are not beveled and different, the FW line is square and the WXR is pin. The difference between FW 95 and AO are major, the FW gives his best in bump and jump and freestyle moves, super in control in any condition, early planning and very fast riding, it improves by changing the fin and fitting a wave one, but I personally felt it quite stiff and too big for waveriding. (Im 75kg). The Aqua is having the same fin fitted to give you that extra drive that will make you go upwind easier and make you plan earlier. Put a wave fin on, bring the footstrap all inboard and you have the perfect light wind wave board. The WXR 92 is a short and wide very well proportionate wave board that will suit a 85Kg+ rider in light wind and swell condition, the tail is great, thinnier than the FW and fit a US box MFC fin. I had the WXR last year in 84 and it was working just right as my light wind wave board, this year I'm using an Aqua 85.
In general I'm not a big fan of Power Box fins but I have to admit that in the FW and Aqua are perectly placed and with MFC you cant go wrong. All boards are double concave.
Best wind&waves.

Thank you for your good analysis Alberto.
Which Wave/Fresstyle fin would you recommend for the Aqua 95 for small chop and to learn freestyle moves? I can afford to buy one extra fin only.

How does your Aqua 85 works compared to your WXR 84 from last year?

Hey Jim
the standard fin suit super well the board, If you are intending to learn spoks, flakas or any sliding backwards moves invest in a MFC Goya Pro Freestyle, it will catch less, making your life easier.
Both the Aqua 85 and the WXR 84 are working well for me around Perth area in small to medium surf, still very generous in volume for my weight but plenty of fun. Btw all the boards are very accurated in volume size.
All the best.
