Hey guys, anyone riding the GA Boost? I'm not sure how much downhaul it needs. I ride them with 100% Gunsails masts. On the extension it feels like i need 2cm less, otherwise i have 3cm between the blocks. is that normal? otherwise i get the loose leech in the upper pannels almost to the mast.. on the foto there is the 4.2, is it too much? i come from freestyle sails so not really sure ;)

cheers!

Gunsails have a different bend-curve in their masts, it is stiffer in the boom-area and flexes more in the top.
Masts from Gaastra, Mauisails and Severne are much more similar, i.e. bending more in the boom area and less in the top part.

Hey, nice looking sail!

I have a GA IQ wave and it feels best rigged with very little downhaul, just enough to very slightly loosen the leech between the 2 top battens. Same with outhaul, find the neutral point (where the clew is without any load, and then 1 or 2cm of outhaul from there.

Your rig does look over downhauled and also has no shape down low, possibly too much outhaul. Less is more

With the mast bend, like Kris says the leech will be loose if the mast bends too much up high. If your sail has a variable top, try lengthening this (maybe 10 to 15cm) and use a longer mast extension to compensate. This will rig the sail on the lower section of the mast which has more of a constant curve

But just play round with the downhaul/outhaul first and if it doesnt feel right try this second

thank you! i heard that it has a slightly different bend curve but i hope i can make it work..

i'll rigg it with less down and outhaul next time, hope it looks better! how far in does the leech usually go in 5 batten powerwave sails? 2/3 from between the batten 2 and 2 or only about 50%?

Maybe these help?
ga-windsurfing.com/media/rigging-guides/

the 2022 wave sails actually look very soft up top- like almost to the mast.

I would try a couple of different settings and see which feel best. Downhaul/outhaul and if it doesnt look and feel right, try the trick with the mast extension. I'm rigging my 4.5 on a simmer mast and 10cm of extra extension made a huge difference, tighter leech, more balanced (was twitchy when it was flat) and more power

i tried it now with less downhaul bit still more than probably you would with your IQ sails. when i pull 1-2cm on the outhaul the batten above the boom sticks out 1cm.. does not look that great but with even less downhaul it would not work anymore..

does the batten above the boom stick out with your IQ sail? tempted to try a mast without that much flex up top to see if it would work better..
