Had a good session this week with the new Sting 44 and 34. these replace my 46 and 36 Venoms.
Side by side there's not much that is similar between the Sting and the Venom the Sting looks totally different.
On the water the Sting has certainly got some go with more lift and drive then the Venoms which gives you a very lively feel about them.
Acceleration and top end speed felt great with my GPS maxing at 32.5knots with the IS121 and Loft Blade 8.3 and 37.4knots with the Sting 34 and IS94, Blade 7m. Both the 44 and 34 were rock solid through the chop and not one spin out.
Conclusion the Stings gives the rider more of a direct feel and probably needs an experienced rider to get the best out of it.
I think if you are after a fin that's give the rider a softer feel and heaps of control especially through the chop or perhaps a lighter rider then the Venoms would still be the go. I look forward to some more sailing on these new babys![]()

Vando,
Are the stings stiffer in the tip and is fin selection similar to the Venoms (i.e 2cm bigger respectively than other fins)?
PS - they look like monster shark teeth.
OK I'm confused, if the Sting has more 'lift and drive', then shouldn't the Venom be the one with the higher top end?
So between the Venom 46 and Sting 44, you would pick the Sting as your quick to plane, light wind choice?
What was the logic of replacing the Venoms? Doing Boogie a favour on testing? I've only just started sailing the Venoms and stoked enough with the performance to wonder just what it would take to move off them.....
OK Vando, but more than happy to offer your old Venom 46 a new home if it's feeling a bit betrayed by being turfed out after a year ![]()
