What is the fastest Freerace board for 6M to 9M sailing? I weigh 80K and sail mostly 12 - 20 knots in medium chop.
It's hard to say what is fastest, if you are talking freerace rather than dedicated race, look at some of the Mannufacturers that are dedicated to speed, Thommen 1 have the Fast X series a 127 might suit, Starboard have the Flare a 122 or 133 might suit, F2 have a freerace, JP have the Super sport. Something around 120 litres plus I would reckon particularly if you want to go up to 9m.
Have a look at the Kinetic Gladiator range.
I've got a 115L and it's fast and fun to sail.
At my weight (100kg+) it's only planing in 15k+, but an 80kg sailor could easily get it planing in 10-12k with a 9.0m. You could even go smaller and look at the 95L version, which I'm considering as my high-wind board.http://www.kineticaustralia.com.au/gladiator.htm
the starboard Stype was probably the first Freerace shape brought to market
predictably the other brands followed
The Stype was phased out for the 2008 range becasue sStarboard found a way to get speed appraching the isonic range (faster than Stype) with gybing better than the Carve series - and incredible wind range in each board
The result is the futura - As usual Starboard have the lead in this development - watch the other brands copy it next season. It a real winner!! with a few extra ins you get 2 boards for the price of 1!!
alot of the Futura's advantages come from its lower centre of gravity - see the futura video on the starboard website - again - Starboard were the first company to really look at COG and it effects on a board's behaviour - and it is massive!
funnily enough the isonic may be the Freerace board you are thinking of because it delivers its incredible speed by being easy to sail - hence the isonics seem to find their way into alot of intermediate sailor's hands.
Exocet Scross 120 is a nice board for those conditions.
