Hello,new here!Nice to join you.
Hello, My first post and question:)
Now just to resume the below details maybe, would the 100l ,63cm width board be to small to be planning and HAVE FUN in as low as 12-15knots with a 6m sail( plus/minus )?
I have a hard time deciding what should I choose between:Fanatic eagle 2008 100l(63cm) vs 113l(66cm).(I like the brand and the model so I stick to it)
Note:I owe an 126l(69cm) but I think is to heavy and to large,at least this is what I feel?So I want to change the fanatic eagle 2008 board(69cm width ) with a smaller and especially lighter board .
The scope is a board to use mainly in ocean an occasionally in bays and lagoons:
1. when the 91 wave board is to small for the wind
2. in order to start planing relatively quick in 12-15 knots (with 5m to 7m sails and to uphaul easy if wind dies so I can return to beach.
3. that would be easy to handle in the shore-break & that I would be able to ride small waves and also handle it when waves can break on me or push the gear etc. - sometimes the ocean is calm but the shore break is nasty
4. (to use)on lagoons to better some tehniques ,again in rather low wind (8-15knots) and to just have fun planing when waves are not out there
When conditions get purely for waves I would go to 91 liters or in extreme wind and waves to 73l(which I just try to adapt to it)
About me: I am 63kg, intermediate beginner(water start, harness, footstraps, planning, rarely a catapult, jibing mostly working unless it does not ??) with some really beginner wave riding capability,at a maximum.
I started to hate the weight of the 126l board when holding it at shore break or when I carry it ,
thank you,
It totally depends on where you sail.
The Eagle is a freeride board, its not even a Freestyle wave, which is probably what you are actually looking for.
I'd say get one with a thruster set up, like a DYno, or any of the others out there. You are really light so get used to using a smaller sail and set if fuller, this give you a little more thrust and power but means you have more control.
They do make full wave boards in that size that work well.
The board might be a bit small for the intended use so agree on the above.
Also keep in mind that the same model board can feel quite different across sizes. A 130L shape has different considerations normally compared to a 100L board and for an average weight sailor, it's a medium-high wind board that does not align with the conditions you'll be using it in.
So if you like the board in a large size, there's no guarantee that you like the smaller size as well.
I'm about 65 kg myself and I would recommend the 100l Eagle, the 113l one will still be a rather large board that is too close in size to your 126l. The 100l board will still take a max sail size of around 6.5m^2, so that can be used on both boards with ease.
I tried an Eagle once, I think it was the 2005 model and possibly around 110l. To me it is a typical "safe-ride" freeride board which is good to learn on. It will feel more agile than you 126l board without the need to go to a free-style waveboard or similar. It should also not cost you much, for a 17 year old board, so worth to get if it is in good condition.
With a 6.5 sail you might get planing in about 15knots, not below that, that is my guess at least. It is very hard to judge the true wind strength out on the water.
Thank you, guys!

It's funny how actually for a long time I am thinking about a freestyle board but then I kinda let go of this idea, maybe a freestyle board could be an option indeed.
I have never used one,not sure how would that feel in a "freeride session" with some medium chops or during clean "freeride session"
As I said I am relatively new to the sport,2 years, and since using also wave boards I noticed, though maybe I am still not using them correctly, that a freeride session on a wave board,so not for their dedicated scope,is not even close in the feelings/thrill to the ones you can have on a freeride board in a freeride session .
And from here and from the feeling that the 126 is too larger appeared my need for a smaller board.
After reading your answers and riding a bit more probably I understand that I need to use the proper board for the scope it has been created which means either more boards either a freestyle wave ,once again just not sure a freestyle wave board gives the same riding pleasure as a freeride(footstrap wise at least if not in terms of body position relative to the board)
But I will sleep on my decision and on your answers!
once again,thank you
Based on your bodyweight that 91L waveboard should be FSW/FS of some sort. A waveboard isn't going to give you an engaging experience unless you have proper groundswell in light sideoff conditions.
Then a bigger board something like a fast freeride around 110L.
Because of your light weight you've gotten used to using too much volume and now it's feeling dull.

Thank you, I feel I am heading towards a freestyle wave, just so unsure of what size.I am thinking if on the 91l fanatic newwave board I feel almost as secure as on my 126 fanatic eagle, which I think is a very difficult board for the 126 at least at low speed it feels like the 91 wave board almost(in terms of uphauling, jibe, tacks and general feel) then I wonder if a fanatic freewave stb 95(2018-2019) would feel to big or a fanatic freewave 98(200x) would again feel to big (by feel to big I mean dangerous because of their weight/volume to try a vulcan or small jumps ;also if they would be to big to have control on them on ocean chop and high speed).
On the other hand if I go to small it could be that I would be able to progress with helitacks or these kind if maneuvers .
So yeah I wonder how low volume should I push to for a freestyle wave .
It could be that the solution would be a smaller freeride board for low wind(like a 110-115) coupled with a smaller freewave under 90 and with a wave board around 70-80l could be decent setup or the 95/98l freewave board would be just good for my 63kg?
It just happens to have in the are the 95/98 described above

Thank you
Vulcans kind of need a freestyle board to get the pop and rearward slide, a FSW doesn't really cut it. But they aren't amazing in swell or chop in my opinion.
I think you need to narrow down what you are trying to do then pick a board for it.
Likely a freestyle would be 75-80L for you and not what you'd reach for if it's really blowing.

Thanks,it could be that you pin pointed it to choose .
wanting to learn waves as I am in portugal but not being portuguese and wanting also some basic freestyle sends me to two different areas.
and then there are low/high wind volumes so that sends me to even mote gear to a point where there is not fun anymore for a hobby .
Thanks for the advice
Don't overthink this, there is no "perfect" set-up or quiver of boards, and a lot of the fun lies in trying different ones. So just go with what ever you can find within your budget.
If you are beginner, I would recommend to stay away from full on freestyle boards, these are very extreme shapes (made for pro-freestyle moves) and they are not very nice to ride i chop or waves, in my experience.
Any free-ride or free-style wave board that is slightly smaller than your Eagle, will do just fine. Older wave-boards are also great for bump and jump (with a slightly larger fin than one would use in proper waves).
