Anyone have any reviews/experiences/opinions with this board? It's a little hard to research at the moment with fanatic updating their website.
Awsome board. Got to ride one recently with 7.5m sail, Evo 37 fin. Planes in 10kts (75kg) with a pump or two. Points high, gybed like.... lets say was only droppin 1 in 20 ( best I have ever done) and was even doing plahing gybes in short chop. Got scarey for me over bout 18kts.... so fast. I never went round the front as it had no bad habits.Best gps speed- 27kts in bout 16kts wind. Easiest board I have sailed.Dont know why some say slalom boards are hard to sail or gybe!!
Thanks Mikey, I have one sitting at home to compare against a hypersonic 111- I just havent had a chance to use it yet and it started me wondering. Given the rail shape i expect it to gybe very well, upwind performance was worrying me as a result of the above. I never expect it to go upwind as well as a hypersonic but it is good to hear it has reasonable performance.
Did it feel like a 110L board? I've heard they are a little smaller than 110 which should make for some interesting races at the lake with my 90kg odd.
I think that I read in a forum somewhere that it was a bit less than 110L but as it is so wide at the tail, I found a couple of pumps, unloading your weight off the board at the same time and it was up and going. As for pointing, I,m no guru, but I thought that a board that sise pointed off its FIN and SAIL, so just go to a 39 or 41 fin. I think that the board was originally supplied with 2 fins, about 37 and 41. Found that in the Fanatic site in the 2004 archive! The board is a dedicated Slalom board, so pointing ability is not as critical as- speed, ease of plaining and gybing....from what I have read from the experts. Try the board....the only true way to evaluate if it is for you.
Bah too small, tried it yesterday and it would be 100L at best. Nice board though would be good for someone under 80kg.
The 72 cm wide falcon is earlier than 05. I bought mine thinking it was 110 litres but later found it listed as 96 litres on the registered slalom boards website. And that's how it feels - 96 litres, Marginal for 80 kg. Easier to sail in a lot of wind than you'd think at 72 wide , must be the cutouts. Goes particularly well with a less-than-recommended 6.0, and the supplied 35 fin,
