Long over due! A decent weekend of wide variety of wind conditions reminded me I needed to post a review on the latest incarnation of this classic. Its always risky updating a classic, when it's near perfect what can you do ...bit like a classic Guitar ...my Fender Tele HH is a classic ...but a set of tv jones's would make it sing just a bit better!
Well Ezzy put the tv's in the Cheetah!... I could go on about the insane build quality , the durability and the lightness , sexy as Fk colors ...its all gone next level ...but its on the water and the rigging thats different .
Rigging:
The first thing you will notice the difference over prev models ..the luff is much tighter, very big difference ..not as tight as other no cams but much tighter than prev models .
Mast end cap..comes standard as 'pin type' but luckily the old cap style is provided , Ive already swapped one over , not sure what the thinking was there , pin ends are a PIA IMO
No battens needed tweaking , ready to sail , no mucking around.
Settings:
The preset numbers and guide system is always so good , rarely is it wrong .. down haul pretty much spot on, i use the med to full setting ..leading to full more often than not as its always gusty AF here.
Out haul, Ive found you need more than suggested , but that can vary with boom brands and types, but the tip is don't be shy on it , give it a bit , it likes it, actually loves it , especially when its gusty.
All the rigging guides that are built in with these sails is amazing , down haul, outhaul, boom height, clew rope checkers, adjustable downhaul markers you name it.
Sailing:
Ive used both these sails now in under powered and super over powered gusty conditions and they are simply super fast, super easy to control and provide a superb blasting experience 10/10.
They don't have quite the same bottom end as previous generations as they set flatter, i think they are faster , but i have no data that to back that up yet. They feel a lot more solid, the past they were a little pull then go...now its a more consistent energy delivery.
The range is simply stupendous..ive sailed the 7.0 in 6.0 conditions and the 6.0 in 7.0 conditions!
Back the downhaul and outhaul off and they pull better than your old mate did at the blue light disco.
If the action heats up , simple pull on those ropes and you have a high wind weapon .
Quality:
Did i mention the quality...? They are so good to look at ...like seriously Sydney Sweeny good! and like her you go around the sail in detail and check every thread, stitch material, pulley you name it perfect , not one blemish! even the padding is perfect and easy to use...not sure Sydney has any padding?
Every sail is personally checked and signed off by one of the team in the Sri Lankan factory ... i honestly feel like buying them a beer when i see the quality of their workmanship, the attention to detail is amazing, its clear the care factor is extremely high.
Summary.
Windsurfing is easy and simple, if you just get a few ezzy sails and masts your done, KISS.
Footnote ..new boom on these sails is a Duotone 'slim' freeride carbon ...it's absolutely sensational , very much on the same design philosophy as Ezzy , simple, light strong , good rigging guides and the 'slim' is so much better... way less fatigue and muscle issues.
Better still it was well priced and the big one 'in stock'!
I think we always are quick to bag the 'manufacturers' in our sport ..but i think when they produce quality they should really be commended ...its clear that Ezzy is Legacy brand and the personal pride behind each product always stands out, from design to build.
And we are all just a little bit better off as result :)

Sydney approves!

Absolutely love your post! I have to agree. I have the 5.5 cheetah ?? its one of the best and most user friendly sails. I only ever use Ezzy now and have done for over 25 years. You just cant fault their workmanship and design features. Hopefully they just keep'em coming! Enjoy the ride.....
Re Ezzy cartoon above.
Is it me, or has she put her left hand through the sail to grip the LH boom arm? ![]()
Do Ezzys have a hole in the sail as standard and if so, as I don't have them on my 4 Ezzy sails, is this a warranty issue?
Also, perhaps she was about to try a mast-grab gybe, as her right hand is around the mast, ready for the pick up.
Comments needed to get to the bottom of this mystery. ![]()
