just wondering if anyone uses or have used an ezzy 5.8 and what sail would be very similar and closest to this sail![]()
in way of construction, x-ply, big wind range, tunable with outhaul![]()
HOT SAILS MAUI SO 5.8m![]()

Hi Greenroom
I've used ezzy SE sails for about the last 3 seasons and found them to be an excellent bulletproof sail, but have recently changed this summer and gone to tushy sails ( rock, storm and vulcan). I find them very similar in all ways construction, handeling, wind range and price, all though I did find the ezzy a little easier to rig. I think it just depends on the brand name wars out there and which one you prefer...
Hey Greeny,
Been an Ezzy boy for a while now and love them, although they lack a touch of bottom end, but have a huge wind range![]()
As far as other sails go, I think most are pretty good, its just personal choice. Would have to say though as far as value for money Ezzy sails are right up there. I have got a few mates with NP Combats, nice sail but bloody rich![]()

cool thanks for input... ive been using ezzy and really like the simplicity of rigging, bullet proof construction and big wind range![]()
hey ian why did you change to tushie![]()
i agree and have heard others report the lack of bottom end the ezzy sails have rooster
i need this sail for light winds and know that the ezzy 5.0m and 4.2m that i have are not that crash hot with the bottom end (getting plainning)
who out there uses a sail around 5.7/5.8 and find it excellent in the bottom end/easy to pump and get on the plain![]()
Had this sail selection problem last season. Made a pest of myself asking everyone about their sails - found out lots but the decision was still tough. Ended up buying a set of Aerotech Charges (4.25, 4.75 & 5.25) and an areotech Phantom 5.7. Got a good discount because SOS was clearing out end of of season gear to make way for the new model.
Was a bit suss on the brand but apparently they sell lots overseas. The alternatives were the ezzy or tush. Many had lots of good and some some bad things to say about those two brands. Lack of bottom end was probably the most often made comment. As a Scarborough sailor this hit home. Most reports about the Charge and Phantom were good (often coming from decent sources). So in the end the money spoke, but having tried these alternatives I'm happy with the choice.
I rig them on skinnies and have been v'impressed. Stacks of bottom end & very tunable - altho' it took a while to work them out. The Phantom has been amazing. Slightly fuller than the Charge with 6 battons and a wave sail outline. Suprisingly it flattens off nicely with a bit more downhaul and feels v neutral on the wave. It's more stable than the Charge so it can be bagged out on light days and the thing still works.
Hope I haven't added to the confusion.
Matt.

Call me on 9317 2916 to arrange a demo of two of the sails at your leisure. No obligation - take them to test for yourself so you can satisfy in your own mind what you do or don't like.
Hi Greenroom,
Used Ezzy Transformer 5.8 as my main sail in waves/bump a few years ago - was a great all-rounder. Cam gave it a bit of low end, so was happy with the range. Then used (still have) Sailworks SR7 5.8m2 which can be grunty or flat and fast - great range, and so I bought it to replace the Ezzy. Not as bombproof due to less x-ply, but monofilm is pretty thick.
Tried a Gaastra Manic 5.7 '05 model - was quite good - massive amounts of x-ply but didn't weigh anywhere as much as the Ezzy.Handled really well. The Poison should have more low end and just as bomb-proof, so may be closer to what you are looking for.
Good sailing!
Guys,
I need a new 4.7 and 5.2 and the major problem with my current sails being so old is I can't see down the line. (nearly took a guy out last weekend).
I like the sound of the bullet proof Ezzy is these smaller sizes but how is the view down the line with the full X-Ply and no monofilm window?
Ash
Hey Ash, the vinyl window sometimes can fog up but have not had too many probs of late![]()
As far as vision goes you can also see through the spectra sections as well![]()
I have a 5.3 and 5.8 Hot sails Maui SO's for 2 seasons now and they get overused and abused.
these sails are still in perfect condition when they should be trashed by now.
huge wind range very tunable and seem to act freeride-ish on std masts and wavey on RDM's.
Goodness knows how many seasons they still have but I'll probably forget when I bought them by then.
Of course you can't go past KA for real value.
best winds

My Ezzy Powercarve 5.8 is my favorite sail, the cam gives good bottom end and talk about tough....it still has perfect shape after 4 seasons!!

Well Greenie I hope you are happy with your Tushie cause I have to tell ya the new Ezzys have now got some serious bottom end
Bought mine the other week and have to say they are the best Ezzys ever. Heaps of grunt and now rig with a lot of shape and less downhaul. Few guys down this way have now decided to go back to them![]()
