What do you guys think about this board for a brand new beginner? It's a buddy I'm going to teach to windsurf. He is 180 pounds and pretty athletic. This board is 79cm wide, 293cm long and 26 pounds. I thought of this board, due to its durability when learning. It's classified as a beginner/freeride board.

I'll be teaching him to uphaul first in 5-7 knots of wind on one of my 5.4 sails for starters and then progressing from there. Average winds here are 10-15 knots.

Perfect.

If it is the old 293 which doesn't have a centreboard you can easily make a temporary one there a threads here showing all kind of cleverness, like a breadboard with suction cups etc.

However I gather you are talking about the current one that is a beginner board....?

Yeah, either the 2017, 2018 or 2019 model. The 2017 seems to be on sale brand new. But yes, it's got the centerboard option, so that's good.
