7.6Ka KRX, *brd Futura 122, 101, drake 40,34
2nd wind demo day at melville. Chance to sail the *brd 122 and 101 futuras back to back. Very interesting particularly when able to look at the gps recordings after. If only we could do this for all possible board purchases.
I liked the 122 a lot. Very easy to sail board, nicely matched with the 7.6. Upwind and down nicely, handled the confused chop out the back of the sandbar well. Easy to tack. About a knot slower than the 101 in 2 sec (although never went really broad) and slower in the alphas but a really fun sail. The flat front deck with domed rear looks weird but works well.
101 never really felt suited to the 7.6 until on the flat water inside the sandbar. I think a 6.5 would be better. Not sure if it was the fin (my W58 goes well with the 7.6 on a 34) but it let go a few times. Felt unbalanced on the confused chop and was more effort to sail. Found it harder to engage into the gybe. Performance wise it was quicker though.
Thanks to 2nd wind and answers my question. I will be replacing the W58 with something 125L ish for 12+ knots and the futura is high on the list.
