The chop at Redcliffe in 30 knot northerlies is horrendous ( plus jellyfish to keep it even more interesting ). I tried sailing just inside the breakwall at Suttons Beach , where the Redcliffe SLSC set up their flags , a couple of weeks ago. Nice clean 1 foot waves to gybe on. No hassles from the clubbies. May be the go today if you can get a park.

Hi Guys - where are the spots to go in Redcliffe? I sailed at Scarborough once and the jellies were thick.

cheers

Most sail out of Queens beach, There are rocky areas to watch out for but Queens is the easiest.
I sail out of Suttons launching from by the Surf Club but that is mainly because I live just over the road from there.
In a Northerly there is a wind shadow so can be tricky to get out - small gusts make it through but the first 20m can be completely sheltered even when it's blowing 20knots out the back.
In a southerly it is very onshore and you have medium shore break to deal with plus having to tight reach upwind to get out. But the bottom is Sand with only the odd small rock. - Avoid going close to the point as the rocks go out a fair way and directly out in front of the Seafood restaurant there is a reef that goes a fair way out..
Cheers
Dave

Get a wave board and embrace the chop. I go out of sandgate as it's convenient for me. The ramps are superb, jellyfish are still a problem though.

Jellyfish = Cup of Cement
Chop = Cup of Cement
Rocks = Cup of Cement

Dropped in yesterday for a look at suttons. Plenty of room for rigging, surf club around the corner. Nice manageable chop, couple of rocky outcrops to be carefull off. Hopefully get there this arvo for a session

Hey Ian isn't it your hairy legs acting as Jelly repellent?

I Went out from the surf club at about 4pm - was good
I was on a Patrik 115 Slalom bb and Avanti 7.7 but was well powered..
It is easier to get out in a Northerly when the tide is lower as you can walk out to the wind a bit easier..

I dunno, I dont reckon the chop at Queens is that bad. Once the wind gets up towards 30 knts it also starts to smooth out between the swells and it becomes more ocean like. BUT Suttons in a strong S to SE is epic !
