Have been told this is an ok place to windsurf/foil in a SE or NE. Anyone tried it out?
Yes, I've foiled there once. It's ok, but expect it to be gustier than the bay. You also get noticable wind shifts as you sail across the lake.
It's my favourite foiling spot. Scenic, no wildlife to run into and you can do long runs to explore the lake. Best conditions are between 10 and 20 knots as it gets very choppy over 20 knots.

I recall you going there in a westerly but have you tried it in se or ne?
Not a place for a NE, you can spend all afternoon waiting for the seabreeze to arrive even though it's blowing 15-20knots on the coast.
Works well in a southerly, the wind funnels up from the dam wall and can be reasonably consistent when strong on the coast.
Good in a westerly though gusty as usual with big lulls.
Check with the SEQwater advisory site prior to heading out whether it is open or not. There is a locked gate if it is closed and you won't get to the water. www.seqwater.com.au/alert/updated-temporary-closure-seqwater-recreation-sites

I went there in an easterly ( was supposed to be SW) with Steve a few weeks ago and it was a bit up and down but still good.

I camp there for a week at least once a year. As stated, the sea breeze and southerly are usually softer than the bay, the westerly is the gold, often more there than elsewhere. One year I was doing speed runs in the "gorges" and hitting the chop at full noise for reasonable air time, resulting in a creased Bic Adagio.
Great place to take a long board for a long sail around the paddock, just take a few spare bits or prepare for it with phone in a bag.
As the seasonal (big rain like recently) tide goes up and down watch the logs around the edges especially. We ripped the arse out of a Nacra on a semi floating stump.
Occasionally I see another board out there and the sailing club race most weekends with a great June weekend marathon.
