Two of us were there for the "around crab island". Pleasant sail but not much wind- got to keep the lasers honest! Thanks to Tony for his continued support of the little club.
I think the next PPSC race is on the 15th of July. They have a little break between the autumn and winter series. I don't know of any other winter racing on next week.
Frostbite series is on at RQYS tomorrow up to 4 races back to back, should be a good turn out, 20knots in waterloo bay will make for some good racing.
PPSC have a race on Sunday.
I will be doing both Frostbite Saturday and PPSC Sunday.
old body permitting.
Family function today *sigh*. That'll make 3 out of 3 frostbites I've missed. But I'll be up at the lake for the allboats regatta if I have to crawl over broken glass to get there. Which incidentally, will take me to a perfect score for frostbite series no-shows.
First go round the course on the formula today, that thing is plain scary downwind, catapult after catapult until finally the last one knocked the wind out of me. Know I have to pay my dues but I hope its not to many more before I am payed up. Aching all over but cant wait to go again.
that would be fantabulous thanks.
i know it's a pain lugging those monsters around. do i pick it up, or are you able to throw it on the roof with the other board?
anyway, i better wait and see if there is a spare sail to go with it first
cheers davecta
Thanks for the tips I will be sure to try them all. Might consider a smaller fin for higher winds, going super chicken as its got double chicken straps and un hooking when its getting out of control.
Any other tips are more them welcome
It's a strange beast downwind, a Formula.
The way I felt it is, sailing normally if you are back too far, you sheet in to bring yourself back up, but downwind if you are going in backwards, you sheet out! Probably because you just sailed into a lull and just slowed down, so then your apparent wind goes further back (to behind your back instead of from the front of the board), and also because if you sheet in further you will probably back-wind the back of the sail.
I found myself trying to adjust too late. - falling in backwards, pull back hand in slightly, then thinking 'oh yeah, sheet out'. By this time I'm slowed even more, so then when I sheet out it tries to rip my arms off and send me over the front. You need practice to get the adjusting to come more second-nature
It takes a bit of practice and I know it's my weakness.
The katapults can be fun if you sheet on on the way around ![]()
I'm racing at Paradise point this afternoon. may be a bit chalanging but I haven't been out for two weeks so I need a fix.
I will be sailing at paradise point sailing club winter series on Sunday 26th of Sep.
My last for this winter since the new season gets underway at Cootharaba the following Sunday. We race at the lake most Sundays through to mid April. www.lcsc.org.au for the calander of events.
I will be there this Sunday, hope we get more that 5 knots though.
There is also a rumour that Mistral Nick might be appearing on a Mistral of all things.
