Never been to Queensland. Do you guys get good stuff that time of year?
Wife wants to stay at some place called Hervey Bay and Coffs Harbour.. Only ever gone west...
Yes can be a very good time of year for both wind and waves. Plenty of good spots around Coffs but Hervey Bay is behind Fraser Island so no waves there if you have a car there are spots north and south of there.
Appreciated. Have car. What about on Frazer?
Have wave sailed on Fraser a couple of times. Waddy Pt was OK in a South Easter.
You need a 4WD to get to eastern beaches.
It has a rep for being sharkey, but so does SA, and ours are mostly the smaller varieties ![]()
Elliot Heads to the north of Hervey Bay, or Rainbow beach to the south can be OK in the right conditions.
While there are some fun spots along the coast, most wavesailing these days is done at southern beaches of the Gold Coast, or Sunshine coast.
From my experience, QLD doesn't offer the same type of wave sailing as WA and SA. It is mostly cross-on winds, upwind wave riding with smaller waves. You may need to pack a bigger sail and board that is suited to 1-3ft waves and 15-20kns of wind. A good WindSUP can provide more options for the 10-15kn days.
don,t come too far north ,that time of the year is our wet season and cyclone seasons and its hot and humid and there are no real waves. best Gladstone and below.we can get good sea breezes if a cyclone develops in the far north
