Hey guys,
I'm just wondering what you think about this weekend for windsurfing on the sunshine coast, as this site reckons around 20 knot consistent wind. I would love your opinion.
Cheers

I'd say toss a coin you can never be too sure of a S or SE this time of year. But here's hoping

Hey. I'm up from cold Melbourne with my gear and hope to hit one of the lakes around Noosa over the next five days we are here. Never sailed in the area but from what I've read it sounds good. Look out for my Vic number plates! Cheers Taz

Hey Taz, welcome to Queensland and the Sunny coast. We're sailing at Lake Cootharaba close to the Lake Cootharaba Sailing club at Boreen point this weekend and camping at Elanda point. Look for Qld plates...:)

yeah it looks good. I could only fit in one sail - a 7.4 - so a lot of downhaul if the wind is as predicted! Anyway, off to check out the lakes with the family today (and find them entertainment while I sail :) ).

Quite a few sailors from Hervey Bay will be at
Lake Cootharaba fri-sun. Camping at Elanda. Hopefully see you on the water.

Hi Dom, I see on you other post you are staying at Caloundra...lots of crew who sail there if you are into waves there will be plenty of sailors at the Caloundra Bar on the incoming tide on Saturday and there or Neil St on Sunday through to Wednesday if the wind shows up...as Haggar said it's touch and go this time of year with SE'rs. There will be crew at Golden Beach to but short runs there and fairly busy...the Lake is much better for good for a slalom blast if you have big gear. Cheers.

Cheers Tim. Usually do Golden Beach as we've got a unit around there. It's pretty windy in Toowoomba ATM, so hopefully we get some this weekend!!

Anybody going to be sailing Hervey bay or Burrum heads over the next few days?

this is an 'after' not 'upcoming' report.. and just throwing a few locations out there that may have been forgotten about

Sat once the wind swung SSE around 2.30pm from SSW was great off many of the open beaches,

I had a great 90 min session off Maroochy Nth shore heading back to Old Woman Island, was going to kite in the light 12 -18knts winds, but as there was next to no waves, so decided to blast with a 7.0 no cam and 100ltr freerace board instead, was a great choice, was fully loaded and flying in small swells out the back....great session, was only one out, just a few kites nearby , easy sailing being low tide also.. great reason to own a larger no cam sail even if you have race sails also, as the 'throwability' and easy water starting characteristics of a no cam make it easy and safe in the ocean and waves (even when small), I wouldn't do the same gig with a race sail as if you drop it in the surf a)it will break! b)luff will fill up with water and nightmare to get back up in the waves.

Local tip, you don't need to be a gun sailor to sail the open beaches on the Sunny Coast, and you don't have to be on dedicated wave gear, if you get into trouble the wind/swell will end up pushing you down wind but also to shore, actually a lot safer than the river mouths where you have full on currents and sand bars to deal with

easiest time to do so is:

a) low tide
b)1st day of the SE before the sweep and swell increase.
c) usually very flat after a period of SW winds, so when it kicks SE it easy blasting and easy in/out of very small surf/waves

*Nth Shore, handles more Sth as a bonus
*Mudjimba, also handles more Sth
*Coolum (upwind of SLSC or at Stummers Ck), SE
*Peregian S/SE
*Sunrise/Sunshine handles more Sth, but the waves and shore break and sweep up at this end of the coast are much bigger, so experienced only up this far.

These are the Nth coast beaches I have sailed in S-SE...normally only day 1 or 2 of the SE, never Not E/SE (too on shore)
