does anyone have any theories on how to master this board in strong winds (20-25)??
using a 35 bp fin and 6m severne NCX sail. I'm 83kg
Would a cambered sail help?
Apparently this model was tough to master.... any advice welcome.
Hating high wind slalom at the moment!
I don't own one but i have sailed them. But at 83kg my guess is your over powered with that set up in 20-25knts. Try a smaller fin and smaller sail next time. 30cm fin and 5.5 with max down haul and yes cambers are better for controlling gusts,smoother acceleration etc. also mast track position is important. Start in the middle and move it forward if you have loads of power and back for less. Also try setting harness lines a little further back than usual. An inch maybe.
These boards like to sail flat so point your toes.
So do a bit of tweaking and find the sweet spot on the day. Minor adjustments like this make all the difference :)
I'm 95kg and 20-25knts i'm well powered on my 90l board and 5.8.
Excellent, my "friend" who was having issues is going to try.
1. A 32cm fin ( thanks Simon!)
2. Lower boom height
3. Try moving mast track back a bit. Or forward!!!!
4. Bit more downhaul.
6 metre would have been a handful yesterday ElBarto. Very choppy too. 
. Most were out on wave gear. 4.5-5.3 m.
My 2cents as i had a 2014 IS97, anything smaller than a 34 Fin starts to get a little small in the chop, it will just let go.
I find if you don't have a big enough fin you cannot fly/trim the board over the chop, going a smaller isn't always better. 2014 fin selector below notice 5.6 and 6.2 uses 34.

Moving the mast track.
More downhaul yes but you can put too much on as well making the sail twitchy and lifty.
It just a matter of getting the Board/Sail/fin all Balanced and working together easy hey

Yer that's where i use to put for slalom and further back for flat water.
But really depends on the sail and fin combo.
I think the problem might be the sail, you need a proper slalom sail to hold it down but also that board is fast and efficient on flat water ( probably faster than the new ones )but not so good in the waves chop and gybes compared to the newer ones. Basically once you get past that point of sinking it sails big for its size. At my weight a 32 fin was way to small

Agree completely. I still have your board IS97 2014 and I love it much more above anything I sailed ever :)My favorite fin is indeed 36 cm for 7.0. Mast track 2 cm back.That allows board to rise on the fin a bit and fly over the chop. Also this slightly oversize fin ( and 38cm for 7.8) allow for good traction on the chop , so I don't need to worry about spin out at all.Another tip that could help is the speed - that faster you go the easier it is to control on the chop. Too slow and you could feel and fight every bump, but when above 28knots board will fly nicely and flat over.

And I have your IS107 which is a great ride with a 7m. If I had known how many of your ex-boards were in circulation I would have got you to sign it for authenticity reasons.
Surely its related to weather.
If an increase in temperature causes water molecules to become more mobile, then a reduction in temperature has the opposite effect.
Bart is sailing during winter so the water in the bay is colder causing drag and making it harder for him to "float" over the lumps and bumps.
Just wait until summer then you'll fly !!

What's the issue?
At your weight in that wind the sail size is pretty right. The fin is a bit small for my liking.

So for a smaller female who only hits 28kts in chop and can't do that consistently it's unlikely a board will ride above the chop?

I'm a newbie in slalom world, but 20-25 would be on 7.0 with most of the rider and some more hard core would probably use a 7.8 for your size when they are on a slalom sail with cambers. Your fin seemed right, black project(PB)? Which BP Fin you have.
I know if you compare a carbon fins with a g10 fin in slalom world, you would take 2cm extra on G10 to be equal to a carbon fin in most of the time.
What is the problem exactly?
You are suppose to be quite balance, about 60% of your weight on your back foot and 40 on your front and your board is suppose to have almost no wet surface.
if you have too much weight on your back foot, lower the boom, mast track a bit fwd...but do it really slightly and one at the time. I found that slalom gear need a lot of testing, it's not plug and play.
And reverse for too much pressure on front foot.
As a no cam race sail, I think your sail size is fine in that wind, unless no cam race sail doesn't have a great range but I think it does.
On review, the wind was 25-30, I think this was my main issue. I was overcooked!! However no excuse I now have a pile of options to try out next time. I have been accused of being a lazy sailor before! Need to tinker more.
Had a run today up at the lake. 15-20. 7m and 35bp fin. Sensational! I was the fastest on the lake by far! (Only sailor.) ??
