Voted No obviously
but I have another question:
Wasn't be easier for proposed terminal to dig a channel in South Strabroke Island instead ?

Devastation to our windsurfing waterways possibly very similar , just for technical access of huge cruise ships seems to be more doable.
This way Broad water could still remain safe for families swimming and even developed into more water sports activities, but cruise ships and casinos drain their effluence to the open ocean , not internal calm waters.
Future value of Gold Coast as family destination could depend on access to calm , quiet water for families to enjoy, and surf is not for everybody, Casinos could also loose their valor over the time,
Piece of calm water is priceless.

But Gold Cost council is interested in their business and shipping all future income and development to Brisbane doesn't work for them.
I am just suggesting "lesser damage" if need to be here on Gold Coast regardless what we vote for....

Beside opening South Stradbrake Island for development could bring a years of prosperity for Gold Coast.

I grew up on the coast. The Broadwater has changed a lot since then. Bringing in cruise ships sounds like one of those ideas that has not been thought out very well. It would seem pointless to bring in all those extra tourists if the thing (our waterways) which attracted them in the first place, has been destroyed. Not having seen the plans, I wonder how do they plan to solve the wave problem. I think that is why Wavebreak Island is there for the current bar. Surf used to run through there and it was treacherous for the smaller boats and trawlers. Any new deep water entrance would also need to stop swells breaking in the wrong places. Kind of glad I don't live there any more.

Voted no. It is close though 50/50. Used to do a lot of fishing next the spot they have marked out...till they destroyed it by dredging.

Voted No and agree with MarkSSC seems a little hasty and kinda difficult to imagine the extent of impact that would have in terms of erosion shipping safety issues etc... Hey Marco If they did develop strattie they might burn off the trees and scrub that stops the easterlies working (until they build 100 foot apartment buildings anyway)

Buildings on the plan for Wavebreak Island would mean another bridge perhaps? Plenty of disruption to the wind patterns gusting around all those builds on the island and the spit as well. Perhaps you need to come up to the Sunny Coast?

Voted No, Who are the Bogans voting yes ? I cannot believe the naivety of people who believe that this will be good for the local economy. It will only be good for a few scumbag developers who don't give a stuff about the people who actually live here and enjoy the Broadwater.

Whenever you get green space and blue water someone is going to want to make a buck out of it. Why they can't just leave it as it is and enjoy it I don't know. Ultimately, the cruise ship terminal will fail because it's too much dredging, it's unsafe and Brisbane is a better option. Sadly it may take a prize cock up in the Broadwater before people realise it!

Its all about the almighty dollar, The modifications to the train is just the start, its all so the powers that be can see what uproar comes from reclaiming land at the train. If there isn't too much uproar the broadwater will see some big changes. Just look at that pink elephant they call the light rail. Nobody use's it nobody wonted it but council still did it. I wish i knew a councillor, bet my pockets would be nice and fat now.

Voted NO.

New title should maybe read in the newspaper:

"Chinese Property Consortium with 5 Billion gets to turn Wave Break Island into a Gilligans island for Chinese tourists served by Chinese employees with profits going back to China"

Then we will see a job advertisement for the environmental impact study that will determine its viability from the Council.

Here's some of the requirements:

Environmental Impact study Officers Required

*No experience necessary.
*Must enjoy Tom Tate's company anytime of the day.
*Must agree that Dolphins are the other white meat.
*.....

yes, instead or cruise liners the first visit to Wave Brake Island will be aircraft carrier and total invasion to reclaim 5 billions with interest....
then Broadwater will be claimed as territorial waters , just extension of the Chinese Sea
