Re: Wellington Point Bathing Area change update
Wendy Boglary (Redlands Council) visited Trevor Berrill last week to let him know this change was about to pass Council. She confirmed this is part of a two stage process that Council officers explained to us last year i.e. the process includes -
1. Approve a smaller than usual bathing reserve with a 200 metre outer limit (a bathing reserve is normally 400 x 400m) - the bathing area within this would then be narrower as per the flags on the beach but extend up to 200m out with buoys defining the outer limit.
2. Call public consultation for a process to approve a shorter outer limit - as we suggested 50 to 100m for the bathing reserve, which then also limits the bathing area outer limit.
This process is likely to occur in coming months - hopefully before Spring. As a windsurfing community, we will need to respond to this with submissions to ensure we get this 200m limit reduced to 50 or even 40 meters.
See letter from Redlands Council dated 24th June 2019 below.

Below is a notice of the new Wellington Point Bathing Reserve changes printed in the local Redland City Bulletin newspaper on 25th June 2019.
Redland City Bulletin reads:

People swim there? Been a long time since i been there, didnt look like somewhere for a leisurely swim?
