Back in the mid 80's I had this awesome Ulladulla 7'10' swallow tail. It had 2 fin boxes set like a twin fin but it was designed to be used as a single asymmetric fin set up. Just put the single fin on one side or the other for down the line conditions. It worked really well! I now have a Quad but I'm wondering why it wouldn't work the some way? Use larger single fin and set it up asymmetric. Has anybody tried this out? I have also heard talk about off-setting the fins on the quad to one forward and one back to gain the same effect. Id be curious to hear opinions on this theory?
Generally boards are boards. Its board design trends that come and go in big cycles. I also have 2 x 1986 Gaastra world cup wave foils. 4 battens but can be set as two full battens, one at the top and one at the bottom then 2 1/2 length battens on the luff. Great soft/light feel in the waves & now they are marketing 3 batten sails for the same soft/light feel. Its just the trend cycle in motion. As Mike Waltz in 1884 proved you can sail on a door using a one design sail. Hahaha ![]()
