Reminder less than two weeks to go to the Raceboard State Championships at Lake Cootharaba.
Always a fun week end.
I hope all those new Windsurfer LTs are going to come and join the fun.
As usual, we will crown the champions and the prizes will be by lucky sail number draw.
We have some nice prizes from Board Crazy.
Thank you Tony and LCSC for hosting the Raceboard and Techno State Championships again.
4 races completed in very light conditions, don't know what happened to that Southerly change that was forecast earlier in the week, it was looking good until Gestalt started a thread about it
.
Congratulions to Julien for 1st place in the Open Raceboard
Scott for winning the Youth Raceboard
Jared for winning the T293
Max for winning the T293+
and everyone else for the lucky dip prizes supplied by Boardcrazy, many thanks Simon.
Nice to meet Neil and his son Jacko who travellled up from Yamba to participate on their Wallies, Well done Jacko for beating your Dad.
Agree with Cam, congrats to the winners and thanks to LCSC and volunteers for hosting the weekend's racing.
It's great to see older raceboards still winning championships.
Julien was on a Fanatic Mega Cat, and Scott was on a Speed.
And the F2 lightnings were also beating the newer boards.
Interesting to review the raceboard championship rules based on last weekends experience and elapsed times recorded in the results:
internationalwindsurfing.com/userfiles/documents/Championship_Rules_Raceboard.pdf
1.2 Pumping If pumping becomes the main method of propulsion, the race shall be abandoned.
3.2 TIME LIMITS & TARGET TIMES
a) The time limit for the first finisher in a course race is 45 minutes
b) The time limit for the first board in each race to reach the first mark is 15 minutes.
c) A race shall be abandoned if either of these time limits (Art (a) & (b) above) is exceeded and anyway shall not count towards the official results.
d) Racers finishing more than 20 minutes after the first finisher in their respective division shall be scored DNF except those who are scored DSQ, BFD, OCS, RTD, RDG, or DNE.
e) The target elapsed time for a course race is 25 > 30 minutes for the winner.
4.2 A course race should not be started in less than 5 knots of wind established in the starting area. This lower limit may actually be higher if there is strong current in the racing area.
4.3 A marathon race should not be started in less than 9 knots of wind measured over the majority of the race area.
2 of the 4 races that were completed took over an hour for the first boards to finish, so these races exceeded 3.2 a) time limit of 45 minutes.
The distance between the windward and leeward marks was very long, perhaps the courses should have been shorter.
I don't know if there is a standard course length, most likely depends on the wind strength.
Worth considering for next time.
