To all Raceboard and FW sailors ...
The annual Peel Island Marathon is scheduled for Sunday 24th April 2016 at Cleveland Yacht Club. The event is a mixed class affair, with sailboards, dinghies, skiffs, catamarans and trailerable yachts eligible to enter.
NOR and entry details will be uploaded soon to http://www.cyc.asn.au/PeelIsMarathon.asp
The race for sailboards would normally entail 1 lap around Peel Island - the direction of passage depending upon conditions - approximately 12 nautical miles.
The event was cancelled last year due to persistent 30 knot winds.
A great warm up event for the Raceboard Worlds at RQYS later in the year.
Put in your diaries!
The course may be a challenge for a freeride or slalom board. The course is an oval shape, with some narrow sections on the Straddie side of Peel. Depending on wind direction, there will likely be some long stretches of both dead downwind and close hauling. Even if it was blowing, I'd personally prefer to be on a Wally, a Raceboard or an RS-One.
That's the spirit!
It is a fantastic event - it can be quite tactical, with variable winds around the lee side of Peel, yet good stretches of planing on the weather side.
CYC are well organised - so weather permitting, it will be a great day out on the board.
The NOR and course map has been posted, with registration @ 8:30am, briefing @ 9:45am and the monohull's/ sailboards starting at 10:00am.
Entry fee is $30 - great value.
