I stopped by nudgee today just to check it out. any comments on what it is like in a SE wind? looks fairly open to the wind but felt a little sharky.
Not sure if he is still on here, but JVJohnnie used to sail there a bit between shifts at the airport. He seemed to like it.
I've sailed there a couple of times only in North-easters though. It's a shallow shelving beach like Beachmere with a reasonably deep field of little waves with smooth troughs. It's a bit of a hike at low tide. It does look a bit sharky with 3 or 4 creeks in the close vicinity.
A South-easter would be side shore and it might be fun if the waves don't go mushy.
Why not give it a go and report back.
Never sailed there. Done my fair share of tinny bashing thru that short steep pressure wave area. (bump n jump).
As said above its shelving silty bottom which goes out a fair way.
Those creeks hold delicious mudcrabs, banana prawns etc. Never caught any big sharks.
Depression Bay holds a lot more big bities.

One of the go to places used to be Cabbage Tree Creek entrance although I never sailed there but a lot of people liked it. I think the run out tide with pressure waves worked well on a SE. I thought the only reason it was stopped being used was due to the trawlers complaining about the crowds of sailboarders and a very narrow and shallow entrance causing grief. Hardly any trawlers now and they don't operate on weekends so they shouldn't be no problems. Maybe someone could say how good it was back in the 80's
Nudgee is great to kite but the shallow water may be a pain.
As for critters in the water I have seen a great photo of a Tiger shark caught between Nudgee and Shorncliffe out of a tinny where they were in the shallows, would ruin your day if it latched on.
I sail Nudgee a lot, not just because it is close to home, it's a great spot to windsurf! Best conditions are a North East sea breeze and a high tide. The airport generates more wind (updraft from the runway heat sink) and the ramps are steep with flat spots in between. Southeasters are another thing, the waves come from the wrong direction and are too close together. Use a small fin as it is shallow out there. Plenty of sharks that don't seem to bite. Enjoy..
