Is anyone in the SC sailing this weekend coming? My wife and I (and two young kids) have just relocated over Xmas and are looking forward to sailing and learning from you locals about the various spots! I sail bump n jump, waves and my wife flat water. With a SE forecast I guess Golden Beach is the preferred location? Thanks for any advice.

Looking forward to saying hi on the beach -we drive a silver high roof hiace with a The Zu sticker on the back!

Welcome to the sunshine Coast. Golden Beach is an option, Lake Cootharaba north of Noosa and Lake Weyba just South of Noosa are also good.

The main flat water spots

Golden Beach - most people rig up just past the lighthouse and playground. Beautiful clear water, good facilities for the family though watch the kids as the tide is quite fast and it has been dredged so the sand drops off quite quick, can be lots of traffic during the weekend. Can be less wind there than forecast as it is sheltered by Bribie. Best in a NE S or E works ok in SE but the runs can be short.

Lake Weyba has a big grassy rigging up area but no water or toilets. It has a large knee deep sandy area but not much kid friendly beach. The Lake is waist to chest deep ( with a mud bottom) and not clear. It works in most directions but can be gusty. Probably good for both of you but a fair walk to change for babysitting duties. Head down Euramella Rd until you see the water turn left and then right into the parking area.

Lake Cootharaba works in all directions and has all facilities. Great sailing spot - good for both of you. Great camping spots for windsurfers. a bit further to travel though. It takes about an hour to get there. Head to Boreen Point

Hope to meet you soon Anne and Greg

Just to add to what has already been said. The well known wave spots is at Neil St, next to Dicky Beach, however other spots like Mooloolaba and some of the river mouths are also in use during the right conditions. Personally, I am not fit enough or skilful enough to handle the waves so there is not much more I can say about what they do. I have counted up to 16 sails out off Neil St so it is highly likely that you will find someone rigging up who can sail with you when the conditions are right. Much the same for flat water. this weekend is shaping up for a bit of wind so I hope you find a spot for some fun on the water. It is always good to see new faces around doing this popular sport.

Thanks for your responses! Sorry I jinxed the weather by asking about sailing today... The kids are threatening legal action unless they see Star Wars in 3D or something as they are "boredandivegotnothingtodo", grrrrrrr. I'll see about making it to the lake but if not then on a beach soon!
