Got back into Windsurfing 2 weeks ago after more than 20 years. Fifth sail today and one of my best sessions ever at Manly. 20-25 Knots! My 6.9 was a lot of Sail... Forgot how amazing this sport is! Nice to meet a few of the guys down there.

Cheers,
Max

Hi Guys,

Sailed at RQYS Manly yesterday, supposedly a South Easter. Was not a great experience, really gusty, wind dropping to nothing at times but there should have been a consistent breeze plus 20 Knots. When I'd packed up I noticed some guys were a long way out (nearly at Green Island) and blasting back and forth. Do you need to sail a long way out to get a consistent wind? Is Wellington PT better in SE? Redcliffe seemed to be getting an amazing amount of consistent wind.

Cheers,
Max

Manly is normally find in a SEaster. The wind just stayed offshore yesterday from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Probably due to the rain coming from the NW.

Yes there was a bit of South in wind yesterday so it was better further out , Wellington point is the same you have to stay out wide to get clear wind .

Looks like Redcliffe is a better place in a SE? Today it shows 20+ Knots where everything else is showing much less. It's about the same amount of time to travel from my place. Not that I can go there today because of lockdown...

Great to hear you have got back in windsurfing. Redcliffe is definitely the most consistently windiest sailing spot in SEQ in either NE or S/SE so if travel time isn't an issue go for it. You will have to deal with a fair bit of a shore break and no protected gybing or speed runs though as it is very exposed. As far as wind being consistent you could write pages on that topic but if there is any sort of low pressure system involved the wind will always pulse and as @evilC mentioned any rain messes with it.
