Hey everyone,
I've been traveling Australia for nine months now. I am not a professional, nor a beginner. Been sailing as often as possible for three years now, mainly back in Germany (baltic sea, Fehmarn) Here in Australia I have my Tabou Rocket and a few sails and spent lots of time in WA with it. (Swan River, Lancelin, Safety Bay, Geraldton, and some other flat water spots up and down the coast)
Now I am in Cairns for the next few weeks and would love to sail at Green Island. I've been to Yorkeys Knop the other day and it was a bit too much wave for my taste and for my Rocket. Also I was the only Windsurfer, which was kind of depressing between 20 kite surfers. 
I don't want to go alone and rather meet some locals. :) So if anyone is planning to go to Green Island and doesn't mind to show me around a bit, I would be very happy.
If nothing comes up, how do I get there with all my equipment and without paying too much?

Hi Daniel,
I don't live up there but there are some dedicated locals who sail there regularly. We went to Green Island in June for the Slalom, Freerace and Freestyle nationals and just organised with the ferry to take our gear across. I am sure you will be ok to do this as well and it should be included in the standard ferry fee.
Hopefully one of the locals sees your post and can help you with logistics and sail with you.

Hi Daniel. I have sailed Green Island a few times. The wind on Green Island is normally 5 knots stronger than the forecast for Cairns. You need about a metre of tide to sail it. You life will be a lot easier if you have a gear bag with wheels or a converted laundry trolley to take you gear down to the pier and launching spot. Also you need a pair of booties, that coral is sharp if you touch it! Why don't you hang around the ferry terminal at close to departure time and see if there are any locals going across. Taking the gear across is no problem and costs no extra. Also I think there is a weekly pass as well which is a fair bit cheaper.
