Great news for all you competitive types (or those who just love a great day on the water followed by a thousand beers).
Ian Fox has just let me know that the legendary Green Island Nationals are to be held again this year. All the information is on the flyer below and more can be found on the designated website www.greenislandnats.org/
Last year was amazing with some amazing sailing and an awesome crew and location. The only thing that was notably lacking was the QUEENSLANDERS!!! A bit embarrassing given it is held right in our own backyard and knowing the standard of our sailors we would have cleaned up as a group.
If you haven't been then do yourself a favour and get up there, it is a great break in our down season.
So who's coming? I know I will make the effort to drive the 10Ks to the ferry
I might be a bit biased having the Nat's as my home event, but it has been a great event for the last 3 years and a can't wait for it again this year!
Anyone who makes the effort won't be disappointed with the great conditions on the island and the well run event the G.I. Nat's offers!
Cheers!
Im hoping to get there but just found out i need to have a MRI on my knee
.
+1
Not going to Green Island but just found out this afternoon required to have MRI as well!
The past season has really shyte for injuries and not from windsurfing!
Bugger Vando, I hope the prognosis is not too bad!
Kaleb will be in a moon boot, so a knee brace shouldn't slow you up too much!
Hi Windragon, it is a great place to watch freestyle. I might just have to ask the ruling on non competitors bringing gear across, it is already a major mission just bringing the competitors gear across on the boat and hence the restrictions on the number of competitors.

You are just getting too old for the sport Vando
Ian is working on the registration issue but if you do try and register and the payment option doesn't let you carry on through and pay your details will still be captured and you will be registered. Payment will be chased up later and your registration will be dependent on that bill being paid.

Can audiences just watch the freestyle competiton on the shore/beach (no gear involved then)
? Is the competition too far away from the shore? I have never been there and never watched competitions live so my questions might sound stupid, sorry about that.
The best view points are from the organiser and safety boats!
All depends on wind and tide how close to shore the action will be, in '14 the set up had the finish line close to the beach, which was great, but that may not always be the case.
The freestyle guys tend to chase the best spots all around the island, so they can be a bit harder to find.
Just heard from the resort at Green Island and they have more rooms available for the week of the event!
Only 33 days to go!!
All registered and ready to go.
looks like a few more Queenslanders will be there this year, I am booked with three others and I know of at least three more going up from Brissy.
Looking forward to some awesome sailing again this year.
Pens down and packing for green island. Looks a bit lighter than last year but it should be blowing harder on the island hopefully.
Good luck you all! Even if doesn't blow it will be 29c blue sky's warm and awesome, can't complain about that, weirdly BOM has near cyclonic forecast locally this weekend?! wtf?! To good to be true 40knts.... As if![]()
Only one day of racing
But an awesome venue and loads to do in Cairns and on the reef
Will definitely be back in 2017
