Further details to be announced as dates get closer, but you can lock it in and start practicing your best 1Hr!
All this dry weather over winter, should bring some good strong northerlies in spring!
Presented by Windwanderers.
Exciting news! And more to follow!
Severne Sails have come on board as this seasons 'official' Freerace Sail!
Generously sponsoring a brand new NCX sail as part of the major random prize draw!
Every FR event you attend gets you a ticket in the end of season draw.
The NCX is Severne's specialist Freerace Sail, all the speed without the hassles of Cams! find out more here, http://www.severnesails.com/freeride-sails/severne-ncx-0
Big thanks to Severne Sails.![]()
Great work Jonesy on securing some fantastic sponsors so far for the coming FR season. Looking forward to a few more hour of power races! And of course thanks also to those businesses that have come on board so far with their generous support.
More Sponsors to announce shortly,!!
Lets just sit back and enjoy that lovely looking NCX sail for the moment , there were a couple at Green island, (including a white one) but no one was willing to hand one over for a test ride!
If you were 'sitting on the fence' last year about FR, well this is the season to be in it, just think you could walk away, with a brand new Severne NCX sail, or Black Project Fin/s..or a .....
All eyes now are to September , with the first ever Gold Coast Freerace event hosted by Surf FX
Remember Freerace is not hard core, unless you want to push yourself that way, it's firstly a personal test for yourself to see how well you can go for 1 Hr, and then if you want to test yourself against your peers, on an equal playing field, everybody in the same conditions.
And this year there is a 30 minute 'fun run' option, so if the full hour is a bit daunting just do the 30 min, its all fun.
The aim is getting as many people on the water at the one location all at once having a blast, and promoting the sport as best we can, and a bunch of keen windsurfers planning madly in numbers does that pretty well!
Think most of the shop's are carrying stock of GT31's currently so no issues there, and Wind Wanderers will have a couple spare, but they will get taken up quickly,
KA72.com provide the IT brains and software that sorts it all out, if you are not GPS GT31 savvy just bring your unit along with a SD card that works, there is always someone there to help set it up for you, if you are not sure jump onto the KA72.com website email Dylan and he will point you in the right direction.
Less than 2 weeks to go until Freerace One, Gold Coast. ![]()
Great News, Flying Objects are supporting the series again, with prizes in the end of season draw, last year we got to see their nifty Fin Pod and Moreno Harness.
Every entrant receives a ticket to the end of season prize draw, Season pass holders receive an extra 4 tickets (total 10) into the end of season draw.
On line entry and registration is now open, including registering your mobile phone No. for text updates on the race day/time, follow the links from here,http://www.freeracequeensland.com/prizes-faq-s-1.html
Windsurfing QLD is playing it's part also and sponsoring the wind for this event!
Feedback from Gold Coast sailors over the last two days it that the Northerlies have worked well at this spot.
Time to dust off that gear and see if all your equipment is ready to go for spring!
That spot is abit protected from Crab Island (southerly is good). You would be better off moving it south to Jennifer Av / Anglers Esp in a Northerly, its also away from the Kiters.
Yip Tonys spot on in a n/ne crab island creates a large wind shadow, on an out going tide a lot of people end up south of the launch spot needing a canal swim or taxi. It's only the next street south of there and a generally empty beach. Usually no kites too
also the same level toilet facilities as shearwater ... none ![]()
Thanks for the feedback,
Great thing about what we have going with Freerace is 'flexibility' so within reason we can work wherever the conditions suit best, and that means getting feedback from locals in the areas we don't know too much about.![]()
We can move a little to suit what ever the wind throws up at us, same goes for the date! if there is no wind forecast for the 14th then we just move on over to the following weekend!
At Freerace Queensland we have radical ideas, like only having races when its windy! ![]()
And flexibility on location, If the wind is the opposite direction to planned for a site , we will have plan B, and swing the race to another spot!
For example last year we couldn't get Mooloolaba to work for a Northerly on a Sunday...(blew m-f every day nth!
) but we did swing that event to Lake C and got a 25knt SE so not a bad swap!
One of the reasons that the Gold Coast was picked for FR No 1 early in the season is that statistically earlier in the seabreeze season the Goldie gets much stronger NE Seabreezes than say the Sunny Coast, it can often be 10-15 here but as you head south it gets stronger. The Shearwater site also allows us the option of S/SE winds.
October Bribie: We will have location/s that work both NE/SE.
November Sunshine Coast , as above NE/SE
The after Xmas events Lake C, Sandgate, Hervey Bay are all picked to work best in SE winds, which is what we would normally expect to get in that part of the year.
As best as possible we will work around local conditions and the local weather to try ensure an awesome event!![]()
Don't forget registration on line is now open, and you can log your Mobile Phone Numbers in also, so we will text you to confirm race day/details closer to the event.
So who's going? Wind prediction so far is less than average so lets hope it changes between now and then.
Cheers
