Sailors self-select for a Group
A - Elite, B - Open, C - Half
Races in groups A and B are 60 minutes. In group C 30 minutes.
Event Scoring
Scores are given in order of finish within the competitor's group, starting from 1 and going up. Event "Winners" are the 1st place getters in groups A, B and C.
Series Scoring
Scores for each event are summed to give a series score. The lowest series score wins.
If three or more races are held during the season, the highest score for the season is discarded.
DNF Scoring
If a competitor signs on for an event, but does not submit their GPS file for the event (whether through device failure or not), then they automatically receive points as if they came last for the event (so, if there are ten competitors in their group, they will receive ten points for a DNF.)
DNC Scoring
If a series competitor misses an event, then they will receive DNF points + 1 for that event based on the group they last competed in. So, if a sailor previously competed in group B, and in a single race there were six Group B competitors, then they will receive seven points for that event.
If a competitor joins the series after missing the first one or more events, their score for the missed events will be based on the group that they sail in in their first event.
Switching Groups
A competitor may elect to switch groups during the season, but will continue to be scored in both (or all three) groups as if they were DNC in the other group(s). At the end of the season, their best result (based on position, not score) will count for the season. Since switching groups will result in a large point penalty, we don't recommend you do this. For example, a sailor may compete in Group C for the first two races, and then switch to Group B for the last four. They will, in addition to their recorded finishes, record two DNC scores in group B, and four DNC scores in group C. A sailor cannot simultaneously compete in more than one group at the same event.
Event Cancellation
Unlike last year, there are no points awarded for attending events that are cancelled this year.
