Here is an opportunity you don't get every day.
Maksymilian Wójcik (don't try that name sober - kindly he will let you call him Max). All jokes aside, this guy is a very accomplished windsurfer and coach and is training a number of our up and coming champions including Jo Sterling.
Max is very much behind our sport and the push to grow the sport in Qld and Aus and has offered a free training session to help your racing technique. The first session will be to improve your starts, which as we all know are incredibly important in racing because if you have similar board speed to a competitor it can often be the start that determines the victor.
Here are the details.
Welcome, I would like to invite you for a free windsurf training on Friday at 10.30 am.
The goal of the session is starting. We will go over couple of key drills for that purpose.
Schedule for Friday:
10.30 meeting in front of the white board of YQ building
10.30-10.45 briefing (drills and goals)
10.45-11.30 rigging
11.30-12.00 grass exercises
12.00-13.30 - drills on water
13.45-14.15 - debrief (with video if possible)
Everyone is welcome,
Regards,
Max
If you can take the time off I think it would be an invaluable experience.
Regards, Scot Farley (President Windsurfing Queensland).
Wow sounds awesome
What sort of racing? Longboard course? slalom?
What would be the prerequisite skills to join in?
Cheers Jeff
Is this the only training session available or will there be others ? (I have my son's graduation this Friday)

There will be others but after New Year unfortunately. Please send your email address to keep you in the loop. Best regards, Max Wojcik, bpmax@wp.pl

Hi Jeff, It will be a course racing, that will require a board with daggerboard if light wind, or raceboard/rsx/formula if above 12kn. See you in RQ! Max
Hi Max,
Would it be possible to include the slalom guys? I'm not sure if the starts differ much between the course and slalom disciplines but if it is possible to include all codes you may get some more takers?

Might be a bit difficult sailing a slalom board from the RQ ramp out of the harbour Scotty.![]()

Course racing: windward/leeward courses with starting lines close to be square to the wind direction.
Slalom racing: downwinds or figure height courses with starting lines close to be line up with the with direction.
Hope that makes senses because I don't have MS Paint on my phone ![]()
Yeah, I can't imagine that will work on the same course but was thinking a second buoy may be all that is required to run both. Just a suggestion but it is up to Max and he may not want to do both at once.

Problem is total different set of tactics and techniques from slalom cross wind starts and upwind starts, for instance you never see any one going backwards from the line in slalom starts , well not intentional any way ![]()

Hi Scot, Sorry for late answer, did my first aid course yesterday and had no access to internet. I will set two additional marks for everyone who would like to practice their slalom jibes. We could join at the end to do a joined practice races if enough people will show up. Hope to see everyone ready for some action ! :). Max

We might do a joined session, but it would be more jibing/starting session. If anyone wish to come, you are going to be welcome, I will put my back to have a great session for every windsurfer in QLD :). I could always lay two marks for those who would like to practice jibes. So please, be my guest and come. (sorry for the late answer, had no access to internet for the whole day)

Thanks Max,
I can't this Friday since I am at work but I will join since I am planning to do the National raceboard in January.
